4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 oz. Cloudy, pear-orange with a lasting inch of foam. Big aromas of toasted, spicy banana bread. Tastes the same, with some wheaty bubblegum notes, and a bit more lemon presence. Light-medium body is a well balanced, soft easy drinker with active carbonation. Well done; by far the best G-B brew I have had. Also one of the few quality American takes on the venerable style that first opened my eyes to quality brew, whilst working in Germany about 20 years ago

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cloudy orange, not much head. Faint aroma, and kinda sweet - vanilla, bubblegum, and banana, plus a bit of bitterness. Flavor is vanilla, bubblegum, and banana, plus a subtle hop finish. A little on the sweet side, but not in a bad way.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a hazy orange, with a fizzy beige head. The aroma features all of the characteristic notes of a traditional hefeweizen, with clove and banana being most prominent. The flavor is a bit sweet, with the esters coming across as banana pudding and bubble gum, but there was also some dry, must hop character to cut the sweetness at least a little. The texture was light and fizzy, which made the beer go down easy, but it lacked some substance. Overall, this beer is drinkable and had a decent flavor profile, which is about as much as I expected and hoped.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
If you want a by-the-book Bavarian style hefeweizen, then this is it. Beer nerds tend to scoff at beers that follow an old traditional recipe to the letter, but I donít know why since the net result is often a solid, good beer and thatís true of JosephsBrau Bavarian Style Hefeweizen.
I poured a 12oz bottle into a wheat beer glass.
Appearance: Hazy orange/gold color, translucent, carbonation visible throughout. Forms a normal sized, white, foamy head which mostly dissipates and leaves only minimal lacing.
Smell: All the usual suspects of a Bavarian hefe: banana, clove, bubblegum. Much stronger nose than the Mission Street Hefeweizen.
Taste: Thereís not much I can say about this beer that I havenít already said about most other hefeweizens. It conforms to the style perfectly and thatís what makes it good. Strong sweetness through the palate with a mild zesty spice riding shotgun. Strong banana and bubblegum flavors up front and clove on the back end. Thereís a subtle, but noticeable, sour twang for a split second, but itís mild and short enough to ignore. Overall a tasty, appealing palate.
Drinkability: I drank this beer outside on a warm summer afternoon with my lunch and it not only paired well with my bacon turkey sandwich, it was nice and refreshing too. Not overly carbonated and not too thin, the mouthfeel is very comfortable and the clean aftertaste makes it genuinely refreshing. At 5.3% ABV itís technically too big to be a "session beer," but I could easily see myself bringing a six pack of this to a picnic or camping or tailgating and having no trouble drinking most of it myself.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
12 oz. bottle poured into a tulip.
A: Pours a cloudy dark amber color more befitting a dunkelweizen than anything. Head isnít very impressive, a one finger offwhite color lacking the great texture and retention of the best German hefeís.
S: Banana, wheat, brown sugar, and a little bubblegum. Despite being rather subdued, itís quite enjoyable.
T: The esters donít drive this one like other hefeís do, rather it relies on the malt driving the flavor, kind of like an APWA, but not quite. Thereís enough banana ester to provide a small modicum of complexity, but letís be fair, this isnít complex. It hits all of the style buttons, but it just lacks the X-factor of the best in the style.
M: Slightly flabby, which is never a good thing for a beer like this. Itís still pretty refreshing, though, and easy enough to drink on a hot summer day. Well carbonated.
O: Itís decent enough. Probably one of the better beers in the Josephsbrau line, but personally, Iíd rather spend a few more dollars on a genuinely world class hefe from SN or Weihenstephaner.

3.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Scrumptous full aroma , hits you with vanilla, banana, nutmeg. Not as hazy as it should be but a semi clear dark golden color. Average head for this style, dissipated more quickly than a wheat beer should. Banana flavor throughout, also juicy fruit gum tatse. Malty, yeasty, slight crispness, but definatly favorored towards sweet toasted cereal elements. Nice to have on a humid 90 degree day in July here in Chicago.

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
My house on July 8, 2012. Bottle into pint glass. Two fingers of head that dissipated very quickly. Copper brown color. Light white bubbly lacing with no retention.
Smelled banana, caramel and cloves. Also light notes of Circus Candy, bubble gum and citrus hops.
Tasted pretty close to the nose. Got banana, cloves and bubble gum right away, giving way to light citrus notes. Slight Circus Candy as well. Good balance overall.
Light-to-medium body. Thin texture. Average carbonation. Long, relatively smooth finish.
Was pleasantly surprised with this beer overall. Just a really good Hefe.

1.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20
Pours this weird cloud copper amber with one finger of sandy tan head. Nose is banana runts, I ate these everyday in high school for a while and am intimately familiar with the aroma. Some clove and uncooked bread dough. Medium body with a low carbonation and sweet bready flavor. Some banana and uncooked hot dog flavor. Ehhhhh.....bleeehhhhh...

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
This was surprisingly good. The nose is big bananas and clove with just a touch of bubblegum. The beer is a hazy golden with a fluffy white head. The taste is a big echo of the nose. The beer is crisp and clean. A good hefe..
