COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Hofbrau" in German means "the brew of royalty." Trader Joe’s Hof Brau Bock is a fine example of the regal brewing traditions still found in Germany today. This outstanding bock is golden in coclor, very rich and moderately hopped. 22 IBUS. Brewed with three types of imported malts, Hallertau aroma hops and lager yeasts.

Aroma of sweet fruit and malt. Light amber color with very little white head. Starts malty sweet, chewy, with a little stone fruit. Not a great deal of hop. The finish isn’t very dry, and it isn’t very bitter. Pleasant enough.

Wow. I was very impressed with this Bock from TJ’s. I picked up one bottle at the TJ’s near Union Square, NYC. Pours a rich golden-brown, medium head and considerable carbonation. Taste is sweet with hints of honey. Smooth and full-bodied, the beer is strong but not overbearing. Quite tasty. It seems like a bunch of other raters weren’t too impressed with this brew, but I really enjoyed it - especially considering it cost $1. Anyway, give it a shot.

Clear golden pour with a white head. Sweet sugar, bread, and toast. Yeast, mild floral hops, grass, and a touch of spice. Pretty straightforward flavor, too. Mostly sweet sugar and bready malt with a light toasted quality. Some spicy, floral, and grassy hops. No perceivable bitterness and a bit of yeast.

Bottle... Clear amber lager with a mid-sized, creamy, white head. Good retention. Malty, herbal nose with honey, toffee and peppery hops. Malty, grainy sweetness followed by herbal, earthy bitterness. Leans just a touch on the bitter side of balance, which is odd for the style. Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Finishes fairly crisp. A big SHOUT goes out to IrishBoy for the trade!

Bottle @ home. Clear, light, golden orange appearance with a white head. Little toffee, sweet malty, mild hoppy nose. Very sweet, light caramel, incredibly malty flavor with a surprisingly bitter finish. Completely unbalanced and not good.
