Crafted exclusively for Trader Joe’s this delicious beer is made in Quebec, Canada, and brewed according to the time honored traditions of classic Belgian Ales. It strikes the perfect balance between spices, hop, and malt profiles. With champagne-like effervescence and aromatic notes of citrus peel and ginger, this beer is malty, mildly sweet and hoppy with a subtle, spicy finish. It is sure to please the most finicky beer drinkers.

750 ml bottle served in a Belgian snifter. Trader Joes stamp or not, what we have here is a well-crafted Belgian style pale ale from a brewery (Unibroue) that consistently males great Belgian style beers. UPDATED: OCT 6, 2015 Champagne like character. Pours golden cloudy. Head disappears in a jiffy. Aromas of classic belgian yeast. Spritzy and sweet taste. Not a bad value. Unibroe golden ales are usually pretty solid. Re-rate. Smoky yeast funk, some wood, seeds of paradise and smoke. Hazy golden with thick white head and wonderful lacing. Supposedly a baby of Westmalle and wild Canadian yeast. Very interesting. Best value out of belgian beers. Feels a bit young, will try another one in couple years. Robust belgian funk balanced by malty slash fruity back bone, noble hops to balance. Must try.

750 ml corked and caged bottle. Pours a hazy honey gold color with a large foamy white head. Yeasty, lemon peel and tangerine malt nose. Flavor is soft and fruity with citrus notes and a champagne-like mouthfeel. Their is a slight hoppy nuance that leaves a dry finish. Tasty and a good value at under $6.00.

Sometimes my snobbishness gets the best of me. While I would never turn down a free beer sample, I was prepared to dislike this beer just because it featured the Trader Joe’s logo on the bottle. Fortunately, my palate was more open than my mind. Providential (which is kind of a pretentious name, to my credit) has a generous head and hazy gold hue. Aroma is yeasty, spicy, and fruity. Taste starts out bright and lightly hoppy before settling into a honey-like sweetness from the malt and ginger. Though I’m not always fond of ginger as a beer ingredient, it’s used brilliantly in this case. It turns out Trader Joe’s relationship with Unibroue is a smart one. I guess that’ll be enough to shut me up.

January 11th, 2013 - I love that Unibroue brews for Trader Joe’s, and that the savings get back to the customer. These U-Brews are not on the same level as the German style lagers that TJ’s discounts. They’re something else entirely, and for $5 they’re well worth picking up a bottle, or two, or three, or five. Of the few I’ve had, the Providential is more like Unibroue’s lighter stuff. It’s a clear and hazy and golden (even in the over saturated photo I took) with a considerable head, as per the tradition of the style. The smell is rich with buttery notes, pepper, pine tree, and antique oak furniture. A wonderful bakery quality smell of fresh bread and saffron lurks deep in there too. The flavor is much of the same excellence, with more emphasis on crisp apples in the foretaste, and a quick move to savory, bread tastes: butter, salt and matzoh. This matches well with the milder carbonation and the relatively light palate. As the Providential warms up in my hand, straw notes appear in the nose and taste, and a little sweetness reveals itself too, in the shape of white grape juice. This beer screams "classy", and the price says "Even graduate students can afford me!" That’s the magic combination for this Trader Joe regular.
