2.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
12 oz. bottle from Trader Joe’s Chapel Hill
Ar: Aroma is a bit off. Standard caramelly malt aromas but laced with an odd sourish vinegary/metallic note. Neither expected nor desirable.
Ap:Good looking beer. Pours a clear amber with a frothy 1" head that leaves really nice lacing.
T: Fairly sweet malty flavors of caramel and bread dough. Finish is mildly bittered but oddly metallic.
P: Medium body, a bit sticky. Carbonation seems slightly above average.
O: Strong presence of a couple of off-flavors. Along with the Bock, the weakest of the $1 TJ’s offerings that I’ve had.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Light toasty grains and faint caramel. Copper piping color, minimal head. Very malty, its fair to say this is overly sweet. Body is light for easy drinking, but just thick enough to be filling. Acceptable as a craft brew, and good for it’s market brand price.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle. Pours clear amber with a small off-white head that dissipates rapidly with no lacing. Aroma is slightly sweet, malty, bubblegum. Taste is medium sweet, lightly roasted malt, a bit of caramel. Light bitter finish. Not too bad for a hot day.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Malty aroma with a little a cotton candy sweetness. Crystal clear copper color with a small white head. Definitely malt driven as a Vienna lager should be. Sweet (maybe a bit too much) with a slight sour edge and some balancing earthy bitterness. A little thin in the body. Finishes with a lighter sweetness and a lingering green bitterness.

1.1 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 4/20
Drain pour. Sweet caramel. Bland. Stale malt. Pretty gross. Would rather have a glass of water, natty light, natty ice, anything just about. Made me cringe.

1.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20
This beer has a weird and somewhat disgusting sweet taste on the back end. It makes the entire beer experience somewhat unpalatable.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Ar: Malty, slight hint of corn and caramel, a touch floral.
Ap: Orange-amber with a medium-small white head with moderate retention - a small but solid ring of lacing.
T: Lightly sweet, toasty and touch spicy - peppery and malty through to the finish, with a medium-low bitterness and a grassy undertone.
P: Medium-light body with medium carbonation - finish is dry.
O: A nice vienna - clean and refreshing with an elegant malt character.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
From notes. First reviewed 10/11/2010. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass.
Vienna style lager pours a transparent copper brown color, with a small off-white head. The head does not retain well, and there is no evidence of lacing on the glass.
Delicate sugary caramel, crystal malt.
Quite a malty flavor compared to what I was expecting. Caramel sugar up front, toasted malt throughout. No real hop presence to speak of.
There is light carbonation, but still retains a bit of a crisp character. Medium bodied.
This is not a bad brew to sip and relax, without having much complexity to think about here.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
The aroma is papery and grainy with dust grass and chocolate. The appearance is amber with a foamy head. The taste is like the aroma with a nice finish. The palate is smooth. Overall not the best beer but close to OK.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
Aroma is caramel, bready. Appeareance is a clear sparkling amber color, nice head dissipates to thin ring. No froth around edges. Taste is malty, caramel, toasty, with a spicy hop finish. Palate is medium. Overall, decent for a vienna lager. Nothing to write home about, but would have again if offered from a friend..
