12 oz bottle poured into a beer mug. A: Pours a reddish copper color with good clarity but low translucence. The head is a one finger light mocha color, quickly fading to a thin, collared film. Not very impressive looking. S: Weak, which seems to be a trend from the Josephsbrau series. Some caramel, amber malt, and a very slight hint of grassy hops. It’s actually a fairly good aroma, just pathetically weak. T: Light caramel, toffee, and amber malts throughout. There’s a strange chalky note on the finish, but this is actually perfectly okay otherwise, if mildly flavored. M: Weirdly heavy and sticky, to the point where its bulk is too much for the light flavors underneath it. Carbonation is spot on, at least. O: These TJ beers seem to be doing a great job of lowering my rAvg (their Oatmeal Stout notwithstanding), but truth be told, this is decent enough. Nothing special at all, but like the other TJ beers, its price point help mask its deficiencies somewhat.

My house on July 8, 2012. Bottle into pint glass. One-to-two fingers of head. Caramel amber red color. Light gray lacing with below average retention. Was digging hard for a smell, but eventually got caramel, red malts. Check – Taste was a bit better than the smell. Got a nice smooth caramel taste with a red toffee backbone. Maybe some dark fruit - plums, grapes, etc., but nice balance. Even want to throw in some chocolate there. Medium body. Creamy texture. Below average carbonation. Abrupt, smooth finish. Not a bad beer overall. The smell is the only thing that held it back.

Pours golden brown. Solid toasted malt taste, nothing special but good value for the price.

12 oz. bottle from Trader Joe’s Chapel Hill Ar: Aroma is a bit off. Standard caramelly malt aromas but laced with an odd sourish vinegary/metallic note. Neither expected nor desirable. Ap:Good looking beer. Pours a clear amber with a frothy 1" head that leaves really nice lacing. T: Fairly sweet malty flavors of caramel and bread dough. Finish is mildly bittered but oddly metallic. P: Medium body, a bit sticky. Carbonation seems slightly above average. O: Strong presence of a couple of off-flavors. Along with the Bock, the weakest of the $1 TJ’s offerings that I’ve had.

Light toasty grains and faint caramel. Copper piping color, minimal head. Very malty, its fair to say this is overly sweet. Body is light for easy drinking, but just thick enough to be filling. Acceptable as a craft brew, and good for it’s market brand price.

Bottle. Pours clear amber with a small off-white head that dissipates rapidly with no lacing. Aroma is slightly sweet, malty, bubblegum. Taste is medium sweet, lightly roasted malt, a bit of caramel. Light bitter finish. Not too bad for a hot day.

Malty aroma with a little a cotton candy sweetness. Crystal clear copper color with a small white head. Definitely malt driven as a Vienna lager should be. Sweet (maybe a bit too much) with a slight sour edge and some balancing earthy bitterness. A little thin in the body. Finishes with a lighter sweetness and a lingering green bitterness.

Drain pour. Sweet caramel. Bland. Stale malt. Pretty gross. Would rather have a glass of water, natty light, natty ice, anything just about. Made me cringe.

This beer has a weird and somewhat disgusting sweet taste on the back end. It makes the entire beer experience somewhat unpalatable.
