3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 soulrefugee (46) - Illinois, USA - MAY 19, 2006Well, I don’t know what a Vienna lager is supposed to taste like but bought it based on its statement of having a "smooth malty flavor", which is a type of flavor I like in beer. I found it very enjoyable, and feel that it does have a smooth malty flavor with just a little hops in there for some zing. It seems rich, and it seems to have some character to it, but it is not at all expensive. It does remind me somewhat of the european Marzen style which I’ve enjoyed before, but found to be a little overbearing. This trader joe’s vienna lager works fine for me for sure.

12 oz. bottle. JosephsBrau label. Gift from a neighbor. Thanks, Sid! Pours a clear tea-orange with a finger of off-white head that settles unevenly. Aroma of sweet and toasted malts, crackers, husky grains, and brown sugar. Flavor is pretty much the same. Some bitterness. Light-bodied, with crisp carbonation and a toasty, crisp mouthfeel. Not bad.

This is a mild, simple beer. Nothing much to note. Similar to Boston Lager, it is a slight malty yet watery beer.

Bottle from Trader Joe’s in Athens. Light toasted malt, sugary nose, also some metallicy notes. Coppery tea color. Medium roast and caramel / more sweet caramel / finish is kind of powdery and lightly sweet. Thin, a bit of body. Okay, Not to bad, not too good. A style that’s not so popular in the U.S.
3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 shadey (1756) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - FEB 28, 2013
12oz bottle. Aroma is lightly toasty, with not much hop presence. Nice clean crisp lager flavor. For the price, this was reasonably good. Not sure it competes with the better vienna style lagers, but it’s domestic and certainly drinkable.

Had as JosephBrau Vienna .. . tan amber .. mild head, pretty nice lacing .. . tin molasses and horse maple hay .. . light distracting mouthfeel .. . has a mild annoying back taste to it but other than that, decent for a vienna .. . . remember, when passing a running chainsaw to your buddy- the knife rule doesn’t apply...
