Tastes similar to the 2008. Caramel, honey, floral, syrup. It’s pretty good for a grocery store beer.

Bottle at a recent BA/RB tasting (offered as the start of a mini vertical). Colour... dark brown with no head. Nose... macerated old prunes and dark raisins. Palate... more macerated old prunes and raisins but with a fair amount of froth and wine-like character that has hints of cola bean and a bit of funk on the finish.

A: The pour is a dark mahogany color with some amber notes to it and a big tan head. S: There is an intensely vinous character to the nose. It’s almost like taking a sniff of a big red wine. Lots of red grapes and other dark fruit, particularly berries. There’s also booze, chocolate, and a bit of green apple. T: A big chocolate and red wine flavor to this beer. A moderate licorice note comes through, as do the big dark fruit flavors. There’s the same hint of green apple and even a bit of a woody character. A moderate oxidation as well as some toffee. M:The body is medium to full and the carbonation is medium. D: This was a pretty good beer, even at five years old. It was almost like drinking a big red wine, but very nice, especially considering some of the other vintages.

Bottle (tasted at a blind tasting). Pours with a deep brown body and a small tan head that fades. Aromas of raisins, brandy, rum cake, clove, dark fruits, and a very distinctive note of the Unibroue yeast strain (which reminds me a bit of celery). Flavors of brandy, bread, dark fruits and the Unibroue yeast. Rich and vinous. Has aged very well. Lively bubbles. Holding up quite well!

(750ml bottle thanks to ericandersnavy, side by side with every vintage from 2005-2009, this was #2 in my ratings) cloudy brown/orange with lasting tan creamy head. Nose of raisin, Belgian yeast, brown sugar. Taste of sweet chocolate, spicy cinnamon, pepper, cayenne, creamy, Belgian yeast. This has aged wonderfully.

Ruby-brown color with a thin tan head and small spots of lacing. Mellow aroma of port wine filled with lots of dark fruity scents and a faint mustiness. Exceptionally smooth mouth feel, I’m sure the few years spent conditioning in the bottle have helped. Sweet and dry, nice and yeasty. Wonderful rich fruity flavors. Thick red wine, plums, and raisins. A complimenting thin mulch-like earthiness adds depth. Well blended flavor, subtle and potent. Nicely aged and very enjoyable.

Bottle shared by a friend. Pours a cloudy amber with a huge off-white head. Yeasty aroma with a bit of malt, but the nose mostly tart fruit. Flavor is tart, but not overbearingly sour. Some yeast and a touch of sweet malt in there as well. In comparison with the 2008, this one was a bit less sweet and more tart, and the yeast was less pronounced. Better than the 2008.
