4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Aroma - Rich, purfume like malty aroma, dark dried fruits, subtle dark cocoa, cherries, banana esters, bready, yeasty, biscuity. No discernable hop aromas. Very strong esters. Slight hint of plastic-y phenolic.
Appearance - Dark brown hue, opaque. Creates a long lasting off-white mousselike head that is very long-lasting (>5 min).
Flavor - Extremely complex malt profile. Dark dried fruits - raisins, cherries, dates. Sweetness in the front but dries out in the finish. Phenolic clove-like quality is well balanced w/ fruity esters. Slight salty taste on the sides of the tongue. Malt focused, yet well balanced.
Mouthfeel - Medium to full bodied. Warming. Medium-high carbonation. Peppery texture on the palate. Creamy, dryess in the finish.
Overall Impression - This is an excellent example of a Belgian Strong Dark Ale. With a bit more body, some tuning of the slightly off phenolic quality in the flavor and changing the sodium levels in the water profile, this would be nearly all 5s! For $5.99 @ 750ml you can’t beat this beer. Another great beer from Unibroue, highly recommended.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
750 ml bottle. Pours a dark mahogany color with a medium beige head. A big fruity yeasty nose. Sweet fruity notes, caramel, chocolates, big oxidation which is quite nice, strawberry. Toffee and some light chocolate in the finish. The robust fruity notes are still there 9 years on. This is very good.

"a dry, spicy belgian dubbel...the body is just ok, and the carbonation a little high, but the flavor and finish is pretty nice. overall, an enjoyable brew.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
750ml bottle. Not sure why this gets different years for each vintage as I don’t believe the brew changes from year to year. That said, I’m copying and pasting this to each vintage I’ve had due to this factor. Beyond that, every year this comes out it’s worth picking up a bottle. It’s a great dark fruited and spiced out Belgian style, something like a dubbel, yet stronger. Can’t beat it for the price!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750mL bottle, pours a dark brown / near-black with a medium beige head. Aroma is full of spices, some dark fruits, and brown sugar. Flavour is full of spices, dark fruits, some caramel malts and some licorice notes. Lively carbonation that accentuates the complexity very well. The age has done wonders to this and there is no hint of oxidation. Great stuff.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
My bottles of this (enjoyed annually since the release) have all been gushers. They pour a deep dank brown with a huge off off white head. Nose and taste are a nice blend of spices and dark sweet malts, caramel, raisins, figs. If this beer wasn’t do overcarbonated I think I would give it a 4+
