Commercial Description:
Trader Joe's Vintage Ale is a dark Belgian style beer of great distinction produced by traditional top fermentation methods resulting in a rich and full-bodied flavor. The Champagne-like effervescence and smooth mouth feel are the result of a natural secondary fermentation in the bottle obtained by the use of a carefully selected yeast culture. This vintage ale commences with a rich head of foam, followed by a smooth dark flavor with a hint of roasted malt delicately balanced by subtle notes of noble European hops. True to its Abbey style, this year's vintage closes with a long, complex and subtly spiced finish. Brewed once a year in limited quantity, please enjoy Trader Joe's 2006 Vintage Ale. This ale will age exceptionally well over time, developing more complex flavor as the years go by. Exclusively bottled for Trader Joe's. Best Before 08-28-2009.

Aroma of cobwebs, cloves, coriander, some prune and the slightest hint of papaya. Appears a dark brown color with ruby hues; head is initially frothy, like root beer, but quickly dissipates. Flavor is intense cloves and ginger, with some nutmeg, cinammon and white pepper; there are also caramel or toffee notes buried somewhere under the spicy notes thrown off by the Unibroue yeast. Palate is intensely effervescent, with medium body. Overall, not bad for a Unibroue offering. I still think that their yeast has mutated a bit too far off the chart, phenolically, but this is an interesting brew, nonetheless.

Tak til Sune for denne øl til klubben. Næsten sort med hvidt skum. Søde frugter, maltbolcher, let gær, kirsebær, rosmarin, nåletræ, lakrids, anis(eller anus, som vi fik det døbt)

Bottle recieved in a trave with drewbeerme THX! Enjoyed at the Shorts tasting with The Club and then some. Pours a clear dark brown with a diminishing white head. Sweet with some dryness. Belgian yeast. Hints of spruce and spice. Also some cherry aromas. Medium body. High carbonation. A good example of a Belgian double.

Dark pour with nice sized brown head. A lot of dried fruit on the nose. Flavor has raisins, a little fig and rather sweet. Good body with a ton of carbination, yet nice texture. Just a little too sweet for me.

Pours a pitch black with a loose-bubbled tan head with poor retention, which reduces to a small ring of foam with some lacing. Aroma is fig and blackcurrant - very inviting! Tastes as expected, lots of blackcurrant in this with some fig & raisins. Very smooth with a lingering mild aftertaste. Delicate but sufficient carbonation, lightly creamy body. Better than trois pistoles, in my opinion. I really like this one - pity it’s not available in the country it’s brewed in!
