750 ML Bottle purchased at Trader Joe’s in Livermore, California. Ale pours with a ruby-brown color; head is off white, large bubbles, and quickly collapses. I was careful to serve this at cellar temperature, in a BCG. However, like the 2006, the head did not stay long. Not much in the way of Brussels lace in the glass. Bouquet: figs, semi-sweet chocolate, very yeasty. Palate: treacle toffiness, spiciness, nutmeg, Belgian type of yeastiness that is characteristic of a Dubbel. Finish: nice nutty spiciness that hits the back of the mouth. Nice ale served in a open-mouthed goblet. Enjoy with sharp or blue veined cheeses, or any good steak! God bless.

750ml bottle. Not sure why this gets different years for each vintage as I don’t believe the brew changes from year to year. That said, I’m copying and pasting this to each vintage I’ve had due to this factor. Beyond that, every year this comes out it’s worth picking up a bottle. It’s a great dark fruited and spiced out Belgian style, something like a dubbel, yet stronger. Can’t beat it for the price!

750mL bottle, pours a hazy dark amber with a medium off-white head. Aroma is quite subtle, some bubblegum and Belgian candied sugar. Flavour is fruitier than the 2006, with dark fruits upfront, some brown sugar, caramel, and more dark fruits. Lower carbonation for Unibroue, with the fruitier tones upfront and very complex. This has a stronger flavour profile than the 2006, and like the 2006, this has not suffered at all from age. Excellent stuff.

Tasted from corked 750ml brown bottle into nonic pint glass, thanks Vyvvy for sharing and for cellaring it so carefully! It poured a hazy copper color with persistent off-white foam, tiny bottle-conditioning bubbles and lots of excellent Belgian lace. Aromas of perfumey alcohol, malt, caramelized brown sugar, toffee, plums, raisins, complex peppery yeast phenols, faint banana and clove. Taste: malt-forward, caramelly and fruity, balanced by a subdued tangy hops flavor, very smooth yet tart, notes of brown bread and brandy-soaked fruitcake, great Belgian yeast notes again. some good residual candy sweetness, definite signs of age, beneficial oxidation, but no soy sauce or vinegar notes at all. Spritzy, high carbonation, light body, rounded well-concealed 9% alcohol, lasting multi-layered aftertaste. Absolutely delicious.

Bottle on 01/15/2011 at the 13th Richmond Gathering. Clear dark brown body with a small tan head. Sweet spice and fruity malt aroma. Sweet malt flavor with belgian spice and fruit. Medium light body with moderately high carbonation.

Caramel, cane sugar, not too alcoholic, but barely bitter in the finish. Would taste great with a ribeye.

Thanks Richmond crew! Transparent tan, thin white head that’s gone quick. Lots of toast, caramel, bit of bubblegum and sweetness. Flavor is washed out, lots of sugar, light cardboard, all around an oxidized caramel malt. Meh

Bottle at 13th Richmond Gathering, courtesy of maniac. Pours clear copper with an average, frothy cream colored head, long retention with excellent lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, caramel, toasted), light hops (floral), and average esters (apple/pear) with notes of peach and honey. Flavor is heavy malt (bread, cookie, caramel, toasted), light hops (floral), and average esters (apple/pear) with notes of honey and pepper. Full body, medium warmth and carbonation, and low creaminess with a dry finish.

Richmond 13th, courtesy of maniac, very happy as I had missed this one. Medium to deep amber, slight head. Dark fruit and orange aroma, slight spice. Flavor is essentially a match, orange marmalade, plus some faint chocolate. Quite nice, and now is probaby a good time to open this if you have held it.
