hopscotch (4385), Vero Beach, Florida, USA May 12, 2008 Bottle… DLD’08… Hazy burnt-orange ale with a small, frothy, white head. Donut-like retention around the edges of the glass. Smells a bit like a chocolate covered banana. Medium to full-bodied with lively carbonation. Well-balanced as the sweet, dark malts are kept in check by the hops, phenols and esters. Lengthy, fruity, tongue-numbing finish.Kudos to Headbanger for sharing his bottle!
mwelsh13 (86), Maryland, USA Jul 19, 2008 Sweet aroma of dark fruits. Fluffy off white head. Spicy taste with nice sweetness behind it. Good mouthfeel but a little syrupy. Smooth beer. It was a bit warmer than I had wanted, but overall very solid beer. VitaminR (242), USA Jul 15, 2008 Sweet apricot wine nose, hints of clovey chocolate. Foamy creamy latte head, nice lacing, reddish-orange brown color. Fruity spicy sweet, heavy bitter citrus notes, alcohol is big. Mouth feel is full and creamy, tight fizzy carbonation, finish is slightly bitter with a slow alcohol burn. Body is the highlight of this beer...another solid beer from Unibroue. kwoeltje (1180), Manchester, Missouri, USA Jul 14, 2008 (bottle) hazy dark brown with generous tan head. Aroma of yeast and dark fruits, roast malt. Flavor is dark fruits, malt (not too sweet), some yeast and hints of spice. rkuhnel (980), Eureka, California, USA Jul 13, 2008 I keep finding bottles on the top shelf of the beer cellar that were hiding up behind all the Stone Russian Imperial Stout I have aging there. This is about a year old I think, and poured a dark ruby color with a white head with pink tinges, and good lacing. Nose of caramel malts and ripe fruit. Rich creamy mouthfeel. Flavor is somewhat sweet, and there is a smooth clean finish. A very enjoyable brew, and consumed at cellar temperature (55 degrees) and aged seemed perfect. DTM (329), Winters, California, USA Jul 9, 2008 Bottle from Trader Joe’s in Fairfield, CA. Timfoolery and I had aged this one a little before tasting and I think it really helped bring out the malty flavor. Poured a brown color and smelled of carmel. Spicy and dark fruit flavor filled my mouth when I took a sip. Very good brew!!
