Unique and limited edition, this Belgian style ale is crafted once a year as a special treat for those of you who appreciate flavorful, bottle-conditioned ale with character. This year’s vintage: a rich, dark and full-bodied ale with a fine and generous coffee-colored, beige foam. It’s ready to enjoy right away and you may also wish to cellar a few bottles. It will evolve interestingly well, developing more complex flavors as the years go by. Keep the bottle upright in storage. Brewed with a delicate balance of noble hops, roasted malts and spices, this is a remarkably smooth ale with a wonderfully complex finish. It is best served slightly shilled, around 53 degrees Fahrenheit and pairs exceptionally well with grilled salmon steaks, curried lamb, beef or tuna au poivre. Crafted and bottled exclusively for Trader Joe’s

UPDATED: FEB 13, 2016 The aroma is of chocolate and coffee. The appearance is deep and dark with a dark tan head. Tastes is lightly bitter up front, light sweetness in the middle. Palate is full to light body, with a slight creaminess, lively carbonation, with a slightly bitter finish. Over all this is a fair beer. It will do well to cellar for a while to take the edge off. I will be back to redo this after I have another one. 02-13-2016 Much smoother on the front and a nice lingering finish. The nose had a lot more dark fruit then I remembered. It has held up nicely!

Hello Unibroue! Very dark brown, late autumnal looking with a very frothy aerated (not creamy) big stable head. Spicy aroma! Sweet and spicy. Mincemeat and pecan pie, lots of caramelized nuts with crystallized dark sugars on the outside. Dessert. Dense dates. Highly carbonated with big soft bursty foamy mouthfeel. Balanced, with spice and sugars. Nutmeg and cinnamon throughout, anise occasionally, and tons of dates and dark date sugar. Total dessert beer, coming dangerously close to being too sweet but with enough drying. spice in the finish to prevent it from getting cloying. Yum, happy!

750ml purchased from dublin, OH trader joe’s. Oversized snifter. beer pours a dark deep brown opaque liquid. Very generous head of medium to small bubbles. nose is rich with sweet malt and hints of floral and banana scents. MOuthfeel is very fizzy on the tongue. Body is fluid yet somewhat silky. Taste is a bit more dry than expected with some pine and resin characters to the hops. Finish is just a twinge acrid and mellows into very nice mild bitters.

Very nice. Pours a deep blackish-brown with a thin white head. Strong aroma, mostly of Belgian yeast. Very nice flavor, well-balanced between the malts and yeast, with a bit of grassy hops. Complex, yet quite drinkable.

These Trader Joes Ales never disappoint. We have been Enjoying them for the last 3 years, and this one is the best batch. Fruity sweet smell, and a dark carbonated pour. Taste is very smooth, with a malty flavor, but not as sweet as last year. Lots of complexity. We will be letting a bottle sit for a few years. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2012-02-20. Nice black body with a frothy foamy head. Aroma of Belgian yeast and modest spices carries into the flavour, the overall impression of both is of a spiced take on Trois Pistoles, similar malt and yeast character. Smooth average plus to medium bodied palate is quite effervescent. Quite nice. Bottle from Trader Joes, Michigan

Bottle: Poured a deep burgundy color ale with a huge light brown foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma consists of caramelized Belgian malt with some coriander and the famous Unibroue yeast ester. Taste is also a well balanced mix of caramelized Belgian style malt with some coriander and some light peppery notes with the famous Unibroue yeast ester. Body is full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Doesn’t stray away from the brewer standards which is a good thing knowing how he masters the style.
