Type: 750 ML glass Glass: Oversized Sea Smoke wine glass From: Trader Joe’s in Hillcrest (San Diego), Calif. Price: $4.99 Purchased: June 19, 2013 Consumed: June 22, 2013 Misc.: Best before July 6, 2015 Poured an almost pitch black color with 1-2 fingers of khaki tan lacing. Below average lacing with some occasional wet spots on the sides of the glass. Average-to-below average retention on the top. Smelled dark malts and Belgian spices. Specifically got roasty nuts, toffee, cinnamon, cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, pepper and cloves. Tasted like toned down version of the smell. Got those Belgian spices. Also winter warmer notes like cinnamon, nutmeg, pepper and cloves. The 9 percent alcohol is well-hidden. Medium body, Oily texture. Soft carbonation. Long, smooth finish. Light-to-medium body. Oily-to-creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, bitter finish. This beer grew on me as it went down. Not as good as the Providential Belgian Style Golden Ale I tried last night, but definitely worthy.

Bottle thanks to Sarah! Pours a dark brown with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of dark fruit and dark grains with a bit of caramel and toffee and underlying. Flavor has a toffee and caramel note with a bit of dark grains and dark fruits.

Dark brown pour with a tan head. Aroma is sugar, spice, pepper, alcohol, and a dry almost champagne-like yeast. Taste is spice and pepper over heavier dark fruit, raisin, and sweet malt with some alcohol. Ckean, almost light mouthfeel. Enjoyable beer.

Pours dark reddish-brown withy a foamy tan head. Aroma is fruit and spices like a nice mulled apple cider on a cold evening. Taste is predominantly sweet with a slight astringency in the finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation. Nice beer! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From the 750 ml. corked, caged bottle. The pour is dark reddish brown with a bountiful foamy tan head. Fabulous caramel and dark malt aromas with Belgian sugar, yeast, fig, and a clean but mellow hop note. The body is bold. The taste is upfront sweet with a slight booziness and a vaguely lingering finish. This is very nice for a beer brewed under contract for a grocery and health foods chain. I don’t know if this just a variation on Unibroue Don de Dieu.

Poured from 750 ml bottle. Opaque very deep brown with a huge khaki head and good lacing. Aroma of spice, roasted malt, caramel, raisins, figs, dates, tart plums and brown sugar. Taste of caramel, raisins, roasted malt, dates, plums, sour cherries, figs and brown sugar. Medium body and medium carbonation. An excellent brew and at $5 for a 750 ml bottle, a superb value. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle tasted at Oxford Tasting Nov 2012. Pours dark chestnut. Yeasty aroma, spicy, sugary, fruity. Flavor is a bit young, with the phenols brash with the aggressive carbonation, but promising with pipe tobacco, cherry, and brown sugar.
