Unique and limited edition, this Belgian style ale is crafted once a year as a special treat for those of you who appreciate flavorful, bottle-conditioned ale with character. This year’s vintage: a rich, dark and full-bodied ale with a fine and generous coffee-colored, beige foam. It’s ready to enjoy right away and you may also wish to cellar a few bottles. It will evolve interestingly well, developing more complex flavors as the years go by.

Pours dark brown with a foamy tan head. Sweet, yeasty, spicy, fruity aroma. Sweet malty flavor. Dark dried fruits like prunes and raisins. Spicy yeasty finish. Really liked. Now I will have to look for this every year.

Very sweet, cola and cacao. Nutty, slight spiciness. Great price. Certainly a winner for the price.

UPDATED: AUG 6, 2015 Well, I don’t think I liked this as well as the previous year but the missus seemed to think it was just as good. I wish I’d had a bottle of the old to compare. Some basic deal at last year but didn’t come together as well for me. Serving: Bottle

750mL bottle, gift bottle Aaron (thanks brother!) shared with my father on Christmas Day. Pours the color of Dr. Pepper, big, foaming off-white head that took a few minutes to dissipate in order to drink so as to not get froth up the nose. Nice retention and lacing. Nose is festive, Belgiany yeasty spice, some pepper, caramel, light clove. Mouth is medium bodied, caramel, some dried fruit, yeasty funk, mild chocolate notes. I’m fighting a sinus thing, so this probably isn’t as thorough a deScription as it might’ve been, but from what I got, it was a decent holiday brew. A very Merry Christmas to all!

Pours deep mahogany into a snifter. Mocha head with good retention recedes to skim surface. Pit fruit and caramel aromas. Dry with chocolate and caramel upfront turning to pit fruit in the medium length finish.

750mL bottle purchased at Trader Joe’s in Davis. The aroma has a fruity, lightly piney character present with typical phenolic character from the unibroue yeast strain. Mostly opaque mahogany body with a small, quickly dissipating light tan head. Starts with a spritzy carbonation, before this becomes rather sweet with some chocolate maltiness and some molasses. Light yeast esters with fruit notes (pineapple) and some clove come in through the middle. Finishes with a minute roastiness. Fairly sweet, and a bit lifeless.

Poured into a Unibroue snifter a black brown with a huge head. Aroma is straight up Belgium yeast with some dark sweet fruit. Taste is thick dark fruits with some serious spice yet not enuff to complicate the brew. Caramel is there with some slight coffee toffee. To the palate the carbonation is HUGE. After popping the cork the brew overflowed all over the counter. No worries still a nice beverage and a 750 ml bottle for $4.99. Bought a 2nd one to lay down with previous Vintage Ales from TJ.
