Unique and limited edition, this Belgian style ale is crafted once a year as a special treat for those of you who appreciate flavorful, bottle-conditioned ale with character. This year’s vintage: a rich, dark and full-bodied ale with a fine and generous coffee-colored, beige foam. It’s ready to enjoy right away and you may also wish to cellar a few bottles. It will evolve interestingly well, developing more complex flavors as the years go by.

Bottle. Poured hazy reddish brown color with a large frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate complex dark fruit and coffee aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and lively carbonation. Solid balanced sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. This is a smooth complex beer

Slightly sweet aroma of dark fruits, and a touch of spice. Pours an opaque black with a ridiculously large light tan head. Very heavy on the fruit flavors, fading to the Unibroue house yeast spice. Lingering sweet flavor. Overall a good beer, and a great deal at $5 a 750 mL bottle.

Aroma of nutmeg tart straw barnyard yeast cinnamon. tastes intensely of cinnamon sorta like schnapps meets a belgian ale. Creamy yet oversweet and overspiced.

Bottle poured into a Chimay glass. Pours black, tanish, creamy, lasting head. Aroma is spicy licorice/anise/root beer, taste is slightly sweet spice with a slightly sour aftertaste. Medium bodied. Not bad especially for the price, but doesn’t seem as good as the past years were.

Corked bottle from TJ’s in Tallahassee. Blackish pour with a big khaki head. Aroma is warm, spices, dark fruit. Tastes are herbal, sweet dark fruit, clove, little cherry, caramel. Slightly medicinal. Pretty decent - especially for 5 bucks.

Bottle. Pours and extremely dark brown color with a moderate tan head on it. Nose is filled with several fruit elements; starts off sweet, then you get some fig and raisin in there. Taste is slightly sweet up front, but also has some dark fruit and sour elements in there. I’m interested to see this one aged...
