2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
11.2 fl oz (didnít notice that!) twist off bottle purchased at the Trader Joeís in Kansas City, Missouri. Best before 100612AFL 08:19 (huh - I assume best before Oct 6, 2010) printed on the bottle. Pour is a darker copper, with a ton of effervescent bubbles rising up to form a noisy light tan head. One inch head falls quickly, with very little lacing. The aroma is quite faint, what is there is nutty malt, slight sweetness and a whisper of grass. The taste is the lightly nutty malt, followed by a bit of an industrial chemical sweetness, finishing with some general sweetness, and some of the dry grass hay from the nose. The palate initially is medium to light bodied, lower carbonation levels and a lingering malt sweet finish. As it warms, this really thins out. This was mostly clean, pretty easy drinking and inoffensive.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Tasted bottle from Trader Joeís into nucleated pint glass. Pours a clear amber color with medium off-white head which fades fast, no lace. Mild malt-sweetness and bittering hops, more color and body than a light lager. Obvious use of adjunct corn. Refreshing, neutral finish, especially when freezing cold. Not bad, not great. Might even wanna add a lime wedge. Probably about as good as Dos Equis Ambar, not as good as Negra Modelo.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 ounce bottle, best before 06/17/11. So itís about a month after that, no big deal. The single bottle was only a buck from Trader Joeís so I donít feel bad about buying it. Served in a pint glass, the beer pours a clear brown/copper color with about an inch off-white head. Head retention and lacing are both decent enough. Aroma is bready and caramel malt, nuts and some toffee. The taste is the same as the aroma, it tastes like bready and caramel malt, nuts and toffee. Finish is mostly sweet with some bitterness noticable too. Even after its best before date itís still a pretty decent brew. Mouthfeel/body is medium, itís a bit slick and has moderate/high carbonation. Itís also smooth and easy to drink. For the price itís not a bad beer, itís better than I expected it to be. I canít complain for $1 a bottle. Iíd buy it again at that price!

Dark amber/brown beer with a really good looking tight ,thick head..light tan in colour.
Simple aroma..bready,some caramel..a little nutty.
Taste again pretty simple..slightly caramel/toffee, some niuttiness..walnuts maybe small amount of hop in the end.
Ok mouthfeel..not to bad for style..nice slightly bitter after taste.
I enjoyed this..a nice simple dark lager

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
deep brown body with a nice garnet hue when held to light. This is topped with a thin off white head. The nose has caramel as well as hints of pecans. There is also iced tea, similar to a dunkel. The first taste is sweet with caramel and a little bit of dough. There is also some hint of pecans and black tea in the finish. This is actually tasty and decent.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Trader Josť Dark Lager is a very clear, coppery brown beer with a thin, bubbly, off white head that fades to a film and leaves nice lacing. It has a roasty, toasty aroma thatís pretty chocolatey. Itís light bodied and a bit watery. Itís pretty smooth and the finish is pretty dry. The mellow flavor is chocolatey with a little green bitterness at the finish. Itís smooth and mellow.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Trader Joeís, DC single 11.2oz: Pours a light brown with a quickly dissipating tan head. Aroma is the low point and it smells pretty much like any macro lager. However, the taste is full of bready, roasted malts with sufficient character. There are some cocoa notes in there as well. Slightly bitter hops that leave a mild aftertaste. Good value, and a pretty good beer, although something is screwy with the aroma.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Good for the style and overall better than expected. This had more bready malts than I anticipated for the "Imported from Mexico" Dark Lager style. Similar to a malty Oktoberfest brew.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Surprised by the low scores for this one. If itís a Trader Joeís brand brew, one canít expect to be blown away. Considering the price,$6 for a 6 pack, I thought this was a decent brew. Pours a translucent brown, with a foamy, off white head. Aroma of roasted malt, with hints of sweetness and a touch nutty. Taste reflects characteristics of caramel and malt. A touch sweet. Similar complex of a brown ale, but with a lighter body. Fizzy on the palate with a rather light finish. Great value beer. No complaints
