3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 thb (609) - Alberta, CANADA - FEB 3, 2013
Pours sparkling deep reddish brown . Bubbly, fading, half inch of head. Noisy. Aromas of chocolate, chicory, treacle, nuts. Taste is rich maltiness, with all of the above, with a little more caramel. Some balancing bitterness, but not much hop character (as you’d expect per style). Fairly one dimensional, but well made and pleasant to drink.

Taste is light roasted grain bitterness with some caramel and a grassy hop bitterness that lingers. Medium bodied with modest carbonation. A somewhat tasty bitter that is worthy of a try.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 harrisoni (10909) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - MAR 20, 2011
500ml bottle from Dobbies garden centre, Ashford. Deep clear chestnut colour with lasting beige head. Some toasty malts, some choc on aroma. Even a touch of hops on the aroma. Earthy malts in the mouth. Some sweet dark toffee on the finish. A little roastiness on the nose. Some cardboard staleness on the swallow although the best before is Apr 2012 so a year on drinking it now. It’s ok for the aroma and the toffee, but the rest isn’t great. Filtered and pasteurised.
