2.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 gilvanblight (678) - Windsor, Ontario, - JAN 25, 2013Very dark yet clear pour. Lotes of bubbly head that seems like it wants to cling but can’t quite pull it off. Smells like a porter. Coffee, malts, caramel, smokey, all those good things. Wow how odd. The taste doesn’t match that at all. This beer is confused. Did they spend months perfecting the perfect ’porter scent’ while ignoring most of the taste. There’s this taste there that’s not good that takes over. At first you get that smokiness, and a touch of burnt caramel. Then that taste. Based on past experience I think that’s the Trafalgar taste. Something someone that works there must like but I’m not a fan of. Based on the look of this I expected more. Not so great though. I would skip it giving another chance, it did smell good though.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 GuillaumeCL (287) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 24, 2013
Bottle from the LCBO. Pours an opaque black with a small amount of tan head that laces well. Smell is cognac, alcohol, and a bit of roastiness. Palate is on the lighter side of medium bodied with below average carbonation. Taste is slightly sweet at first, then doesn’t really do anything, though gets a bit bitter in the aftertaste. Not bad, but just... there’s nothing there.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 Boutip (3971) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 28, 2013
Bottle: Poured a clear dark color porter with a large dirty white foamy head with average retention and minimal lacing. Aroma consists of light dry roasted malt with some light sweet notes and very subtle cognac notes. Taste is a mix between light dry roasted notes with light residual sugar notes and a vanilla and liquor. Body is indeed too thin for style with medium carbonation. Not as bad as expected but not as great either.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 MikeRochon (19) - - FEB 27, 2013
Dark red, light brown with little head retention. Coffee, chocolate, a little sour/dried fruit, some burnt sugar and a hint of spice. Medium light bodied with a short finish, thin and not terribly pleasant. Not really sure what the cognac barrel contributed, a mediocre beer with a hugely inflated price tag.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 neuromatt (858) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 23, 2013
500 mL bottle from the LCBO, served in a snifter. Pours clear reddish chestnut with a small tan head that fades quickly to a thin remnant and leaves a small amount of fine lace. On the nose, there are notes of oak, grapes, toffee and chocolate, with hints of vanilla and fruit. The flavour is dry with oaky, toasty malts and a touch of cocoa. The finish is long, dry and slightly bitter. On the palate, it is light in body with a dry texture and soft carbonation. Overall, I was a little disappointed with this one. The cognac is nice, but the body is too thin and plain for my taste. 2012-12-22
1.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 3/20 Phluid (1) - kitchener, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 16, 2013 does not count
Very nice first notes, very flat second, but has a good finish. A bit pricey, but worth a try.
2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Metalchopz (1742) - Cantley, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 13, 2013
Thin porter it is. But, it still has some decent characteristics. Nice ceramic bottle with swing-top from the LCBO. Pours a clean dark brown, see-through, with red highlights. Frothy beige head with average retention and a little lace. Aromas of roasted malts, coffee, dark fruits, caramel, with hints of burnt wood and the cognac alcohol warmth. Wet thin mouthfeel and the taste seems watered-down. Some roasted burnt malts show up in the finish thankfully. Notes of dark fruits, hop bitterness, watery molasses and coffee. This could of been much better, had it had a stronger alcohol content (to have more punch in the mouth). Still, worth trying.
2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Viper666 (2654) - Saint-Hubert, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 11, 2013
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Radek Kliber (5906) - Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), POLAND - JAN 25, 2013
Aroma: coffee , dry roast , slight woody notes , hint of licorice decently rounded.
Look: hazed dark brown with lighter beige top. 3+
Taste/Palate: medium bodied , softer feel. Touch of ash , woody feel , slight nutty elements. Cognac feel is there , balanced that is part of base beer. Good.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Bendrixian (677) - Halifax, Nova Scotia, CANADA - JAN 21, 2013
Light brown and clear colour, Roast, sweet corn and muted aroma with aonly a hint of something woodsy. Light styled ale with a small hint of roast and some stewed fruit but overall really disappointing and slightly over priced.
