DougShoemaker (2553), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Feb 20, 2008 Chocolate, peppermint nose, dark brown, tiny tan head. Taste is mildly chocolate and peppermint, light bodied, sweet, bitter. Good! Nice effort. "I came for the chocolate I stayed for the peppermint." Slacks (355), Bolton, Ontario, Canada Dec 28, 2007 Cask @ Volo Cask Days 07: Relabeled as "Peppermint Stout" for Cask Days, although consensus seems to be that they’re the same beer with a slightly different (ie. cask) treatment. Pours rich and black, only a small amount of surprisingly white head. The aroma is actually nice, the peppermint bounces off the roasted malts nicely. The flavour is good, but oddly watery and lacking in any profound amount of taste. Felt like it could be something much better with some toying as there exists a bit of promise within. mabel (1246), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Nov 8, 2007 Updated: Dec 30, 2007[627-20070917] Tap @ C’est What (Toronto, ON; Original). Chocolate peppermint pattie aroma. Black red body with a long-lasting creamy light tan and lots of thick lacing. Slightly minty flavour with faint chocolate and roasted bitter malt. Grainy medium-full body. Nice porter. (8/3/7/3/15) 3.6
[779B-20071021] Cask @ Volo Cask Days 2007 (Toronto, ON; "Unfiltered"). Roasted malt aroma has a bit of a tang. Murky, dark dark brown body with no head. Coffee and roasted malt flavour with an after tang and a mild hint of toothpaste. Medium body is thin. Not much peppermint and under-carbonated but interesting to try. (6/2/5/2/11) 2.6 shintriad (654), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 29, 2007 One of their better offerings. Very dark brown with peppermint/spearmint with some roasted scents. Thin, bubbly body. Balances well with the coffee/toffee flavours. The mintiness shines through in mid-swallow where it’s unfortunately tainted by the Trafalgar sourness. Other than that, this works pretty well. tupalev (2267), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 22, 2007 Updated: Oct 23, 2007At Cask Days 2007. Labeled as stout but there is no way these are 2 different beers. Black body, very little head. Aroma was nice - peppermint mixed with roast, I thought it was quite promising as a sign of things to come. Taste was a let down - little peppermint over a dry stout body but man, this is way too thin and way too watery. Ok at best.
