3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
I’m a bit surprised by the poor ratings here. I rather enjoyed this. It’s a dark brown stout, though it doesn’t have much of a head. Smells slightly smokey and with a lot of sweet chocolate. Taste is roasted malts, coffee, and chocolate. The smoked portion is a tad weak, I’ll admit, but I still found this to be a rather enjoyable stout.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Definitely understated, but the advertised elements are all there. The nose is chocolate and malt. There is a thin light tan head on a black body. Taste elements include a mild oatmeal maltiness, chocolate and a touch of smoke. Certainly well balanced.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
The oatmeal stout that really isn’t much of a stout. The smoked beer that isn’t that smokey. Pours thin & dark with nary a cap to be found, which makes for a somewhat disappointing appearance. Taste is slight & watery (and not the thick water soup blandness of guiness). Very lightly smoked. Everything seems so reserved, so slight, so timid.

2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
660 ml shared with dad from lcbo A: chocolate, caramel / licorice App: dark brown close to black no head. T/p: Med body with sweet but short finish. O: deceiving. Didn’t get any smoke and would have expected more mouthfeel from the oatmeal.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: JUN 28, 2013 Trafalgar always putting good efforts into making some interesting beers, but this one is the same as so many other efforts by them, it’s ok but lacking that taste and leaves you desiring something more. I guess if they keep trying one day they might get it right.

2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Nice pour. Put some of the 650ml bottle in the glass, the rest I used to cook mussels. Delicious both ways. Dark colour. Chocolate on the palate. Long pleasant finish. A nice beer. Not outstanding, but a good effort.

2.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 8/20
bottle. Pours fizzy black, little head. Aroma is decent, strong smoke and meat. Taste is disappointing, almost like a spray of smokiness in a thin and bland lager. Not great.

2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a very deep auburn brown; opaque. Medium off-white foam with tiny bubbles. Aroma of dark chocolate balanced with sweet roasted malts. Mild smokey taste gives way to a much deeper, hardwood smoked aftertaste with a heavy amount of both roasted malt and astringent bitterness. Earthy, musty as some have said and somewhat oily. Bitter aftertaste. I ended up using 1/2 the bottle to cook a beef stew, just couldn’t drink the whole bottle...

3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bouteille 650 ml. 5%.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Aroma: Not bad, it has a bread, toast, chocolate and coffee notes. Not very strong though.
Appearance: It’s a not bad looking beer. Very dark and cloudy as you would expect, and a nice brown neck that lasts a bit.
Taste: Bitter and sour, much more than I was going to expect.
Palate: Feels creamy, but light bodied, soft and has a short and bitter finish.
Overall: Not the best stout I had, but maybe more suitable for someone who is used to lagers, it would be more palatable.
