4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Has a wonderful aroma of caramel, toffee, nutmeats, barest hint of peat. Flavorís a lot more bold - similar to nose, but sweet more than bitter, very slight carbonic tang, a little cocoa, dark ripe fruit, balanced. Very clean and easy drinking. Just a hint of the alcohol. Nice stuff.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sweet scents, with toasted caramel malt, butterscotch and blackberry brandy. Perhaps a bit too sweet but I like it. Thick and chewy, but yet there is a bit of a zip behind it. Sweet Start with malt, caramel, berries and touches of alcohol. Has some qualities of an old ale, but more of a barleywine. Nice winter warmer. 11/11

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured from a 330ml bottle after cellaring for over 4 years. The bottle say "best before end April 2020, so perhaps I'm a few years premature.
Clear, dark ruby-brown with a 1-finger tan head and fair lacing.
Aroma of toffee, dark fruit and roasted malt.
Taste of sweet dark fruit, pepper, spice, toffee, buttered dark toast and a little alcohol. Complex and hard to describe.
Medium/full body and medium carbonation with a rich mouthfeel.
Right good; the aging seems just about right.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
11.2 ounce bottle, brewed in 2010, best before end April 2020. Served in a snifter, the beer pours a hazy copper/brown color with maybe a 1/4 inch light tan head that fizzled away somewhat quickly. Thereís a decent amount of lacing. I like the aroma, the brew smells like caramel, toffee, dark fruit (raisins, figs, plums), brown sugar, and some dark bread. I think the taste is similar to the aroma, but thereís the addition of some peatiness, wood and some sherry flavors. Mouthfeel/body is medium, itís coating and has low/moderate carbonation. I thought this was a good brew, Iím glad I drank this now. Not sure how good this will be in 2020, but I only had one bottle and didnít want to wait any longer to drink it. If thereís any more bottles of this lying around, itís worth buying and drinking!

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Pours a cloudy copper with small beige head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is a strong roast and toffee. Thin mouthfeel with a brown sugar caramel, dark fruit, figs, a bit oxidized.

3.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
11.2 ounce bottle, Not sure where exactly I purchased this, however. Likely Monument in Concord or in Berkeley. The aroma on this has lots of cardboardy oxidation with some butterscotch-like notes. The aroma has some sweet, peaty, toffee hints, too. I really enjoy the nose on this. Moderately hazy cola-colored body with a medium, fairly strong light tan head with surprisingly good head retention. Starts with a fairly sweet sherry-like flavoring. Has plenty of toffee in the middle. Light roast. Becomes a little thin and slightly watery. Finishes with a woody, papery, oxidized flavoring. Carbonation is low. This is pretty one-dimensional, and I really donít see how any more time would improve this beer.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
11.2 ounces goes a long way. dark ruby brown. full bodied and boozy without quite being hot, but the booziness and sweetness are persistent. not any real hop presence, but a complex cornucopia of dark roasty malts, chocolate, plum/raisin and other dark fruits, with a hint of smoke. kinda like a wee heavy, kinda like a barleywine. good stuff, though Iíll have to have another House ale, which i remember being slightly better. this should age well...not til 2020 but for a year or two."

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dirty light brown, no actual head. White pepper and nutmeg drowned in soft toffee sweetness. Malt sack dusty bitter, soft creamy tea. Highlight is the lowlight of the ABV, neat and palatable but thereís not a kick at any point. Slow milky sipping. Finishes lightly lemon bitter but a lampooned comforting creamy linger.

Bottle at Craigís. Pours dark red brown with a thin off-white head. Aromas of almonds, dried fruit. Taste is sweet, light booze, more fruit. Texture is oily, medium body. Sticky, rich finish. Good.
