4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
11.2 oz. bottle from Grape & Gourmet. Dark brown cola-like pour with a creamy off-white head. Aroma of sweet toffee malts and light floral hops. The aroma really reminds me of a Scotch ale. The flavor is heavy on the sweet caramel and toffee malts with little to offer in the way of bitter hops. Those expecting a barely wine may be disappointed but this is a very solid beer.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a rich dextrinous harp ruby brown with one finger of light tan head. Dextrinous nose with notes of caramel and peat followed by raisins and a mild port-like quality. Rich malty flavor, caramel and sweet toasted grain with some fruity esters and peaty notes. Slightly raisiny with a mild alcoholic warmth and full body.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
12oz bottle. Best before April 2020.
Appearance : Deep mahogany with small white creamy head. Some lacing.
Aroma : Alcohol and resinous hops. Caramel malt
Taste : Alcohol and malt. Resinous and herbal hops. Finish nice herbal and resinous hops. Nice caramel. Dry and warm finish.
Overall : Nice hops and nice malt. A bit too warm but I guess this is expected to be aged. Nice caramel on the nose. I really like it’s malt and hops but alcohol is a bit too present. Could be a bit more cohesive too. If I had another bottle I’d wait at least 2 years before opening it.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
11.2 oz. bottle from Total Wine, Gilbert, AZ. Pours dark reddish-copper color, with creamy off-white head, and abundant carbonation. Aroma is complex with vanilla, malt, and some dark fruit. Taste is well balanced, sweet caramel malt and toffee. Full bodied, rich and syrupy. Very little hop flavor. Finish is somewhat bitter, but nicely bitter. This one is silky smooth and boozy- - a great ale!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
11.2 fl oz bottle shared by beastiefan2k. Pour is a hazed brown orange copper, with a smallish light tan head. Aroma is coriander, grassy, and a rye maltiness. Taste is sweet malt, the rye notes, followed by bread and floral herbal. Peat earthiness crops up in the finish. Really interesting and integrated beer. Palate is heavy to medium bodied, lower carbonation - certainly a sipper. Lingers with peat, sweet malt and minor alcohol notes. Nice one, thanks for sharing Eugene.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
(11.2oz bottle). Pours a deep mahogany with thin off-white head. Aroma has loads of caramel malt, some smoke?, and some wood. It has a faint resemblence to a belgian quad. Not quite a quad, but some similarities by aroma. Taste is sweet with caramel again shining through and light bittering hops. Full bodied with a sticky texture. Finish is slightly bitter. A very nice beer that I would expect to age very well.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Mahogony beer with a dark cream colored head. Malt and herbal aroma with light fruit. Malt and toffee flavor with light herbalness and light earth. Medium-plus bodied. Toffee and light fruit lingers with light herbal notes and light woodsiness.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a dark chestnut brown color with golden ruby/mahogany edges when held to a light and a 1.5 light beige head quickly settles into a lasting ring. Thin ring and sporadic spots of lacing left behind.
Earthy, leathery malt aroma with hints of toffee, caramel biscuit and hazelnut. Subtle floral hops and faint alcohol booze but the nose is dominated by the earthy and sweet malt notes.
Medium bodied and fuller than expected with a slightly creamy texture. Faint earthy hop bitterness up front that is quickly countered by the leathery and sweet malt flavors. Lots of caramel with hints of toffee, biscuit, rye and hazelnut. Slightly boozy but at 10% the ABV is very well masked resulting in a very quaffable beer.
Overall, this beer was a pleasant surprise. I was expecting it to be much hotter and harsh at this stage but it’s already considerably mellow. Well balanced, flavorful and easy to drink. I plan on buying a bunch more of these to see how they develop over the next ten years.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Deep garnet, thin layer of persistent head. Rich vinous fruity aroma, plummy, rummy, raisiny, reminiscent of the house ale. Nose is complemented by a leafy tobacco like hoppiness. Fruity and sweet flavors, a touch vinous. Alcohol and some astringent or cloying heavy malt sweetness comes up toward the finish, not as refined a palate as I’d hoped. Finish is long, with madeira or sherry like notes of oxidized wine, and it almost makes me want to say I can taste some kind of oakiness in this, but perhaps not.
