Bottle. Very dark brown/red with a beige head that disappears quickly. Aroma of port wine with quite a bit of alcohol. Tastes of licorice, port, dried fruits, caramel. Sweet with a full mouthfeel and warming alcohol.

caramel, raisin, amber, clear, minimal head, white foam, medium sweetness, lightly bitter, lightly sour, full body, creamy, soft carbonation, long finish, Fantastisk öl! Komplex och fyllig. Inte alls särskillt spritig trots sin ABV. Lättdrucken. God till ost.

Bottle@Systembolaget. Pours deep red and has a beige small head. Nose is just perfect. Has deep aroma from nuts, sweet medium roasted malt, little vinous, pepper, red berries and little woody. Flavor is quite the same. Warming and palate is little oily. I like!

Bottle… This beer rocks!… Deep, dark copper ale with a small, creamy, white head. Lasting retention. The bouquet is a luxuriant intermingling of caramel, toffee, ruby port, light molasses and toasted pecans with a splash of coffee. Full-bodied and oily with supple carbonation. The flavor is a complex, lightly vinous, hearty mélange of sweet caramel malts, buttery toffee, crusted port and rich coffee. Malty, but fairly balanced, warming finish. More reminiscent of a Scotch ale than a barley wine. World class beer from a classy, masterful brewery!

When I looked up the shade of red this beer pured out as, Wikipedia said Wine. The body was clear, and the head was one finger thick. Unlike most other barleywines, this one seemed to have a vigorous carbonation. The smell was very sweet, like molasses or honey almost, with just a dash of spice. The taste was very rich, reminding me of golden raisins and brown sugar. Despite the richness, this beer was actually not overly sweet, and spicy hops came through in the middle of each sip. The finish was sweet again with some peaty undertones. Thick and tongue coating, this was very velvety in the mouth. Very drinkable for a 10% ABV ale, and a fine drink 9 years before the expiration date of 2020.

11.2 oz. bottle from Total Wine, Gilbert, AZ. Pours dark reddish-copper color, with creamy off-white head, and abundant carbonation. Aroma is complex with vanilla, malt, and some dark fruit. Taste is well balanced, sweet caramel malt and toffee. Full bodied, rich and syrupy. Very little hop flavor. Finish is somewhat bitter, but nicely bitter. This one is silky smooth and boozy- - a great ale!

11.2oz bottle from Pinch poured into a snifter. Pours a slightly cloudy, dark brown with a thin ring of off-white head. Aroma of caramel, sugar, dark fruit and a little smoke. Taste is light sweet and light bitter. A lot more sugar and caramel than fruit in the taste. Full bodied with a thick texture. Soft carbonation and a long finish. Overall, very good. I would love to try this one when 2020 rolls around.

Bottle. Deep amber color, nice beige head. Milky creamy aroma, nutty notes, some fruit. Toffee, buttery, strong without bringing too much alcohol. Nutty flavor, milky, mild creamy notes, some alocohol, fruity. Malty finish with nutty and buttery notes. Wonderful barley wine!

Beershine (5218) - The Sunshine State, Florida, USA - FEB 7, 2011
bottle. Rich red-brown garnet and gleaming. Not much of a head. Aroma is sweet, fruity, with fresh dates, hint of alcohol in background. Sticky toffee pudding. Some brown bread. Nice juicy body. Finishes with long-lasting dark bread. Yum with lots of big dried fruit in the middle. Alcohol dries out the finish. Delicious fruity dark bread, or dark fruit bread. Finishes slightly woody and pleasantly tannic. Chocolate comes out late. Very nice.

Deep garnet, thin layer of persistent head. Rich vinous fruity aroma, plummy, rummy, raisiny, reminiscent of the house ale. Nose is complemented by a leafy tobacco like hoppiness. Fruity and sweet flavors, a touch vinous. Alcohol and some astringent or cloying heavy malt sweetness comes up toward the finish, not as refined a palate as I’d hoped. Finish is long, with madeira or sherry like notes of oxidized wine, and it almost makes me want to say I can taste some kind of oakiness in this, but perhaps not.
