An ale brewed to celebrate the first decade of the 21st century and to be consumed before the end of the second decade. Traquair Brewery -- tiny, historic, and rooted with deep traditions -- is situated in Scotland’s oldest inhabited house. Savour this authentic taste of Scotland.

Bottle. Thanks Bullit. The aroma has caramel and raisins mainly. Clear, brown coloured barley wine with not much head there. The taste is quite sweet, with sugar, caramel, raisins and a hint of spice. Bit sticky. Okay.

Bottle from Systembolaget. It poured a clear dark amber liquid with a very small dirty grey-white head. Sweet flavour of candy, brandy and caramel. Semi-smooth mouthfeel, medium amount of carbonation and thick body. A bit to alcoholic for my taste. Could use some more malt and residual sweetness. Might improve over time.

Appearance: Dark subtle red color with a tan head. Ok lacing.
Aroma: Dark malt and fruity.
Palate: Medium body. A bit sweet and light bitterness. Creamy carbonation.
Taste: Dark malt, fruity. Well hidden alcohol.
Overall impression: A pleasant surprise.
Personal stats: Bottle (as Traquair 2010) from a trade with rlgk.

Bottled. A dark red beer with a thin tan head. The aroma is sweet with notes of malt and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and caramel, leading to a bitter finish.

The brew pours chestnut brown with a small head. The aroma has a strong malty backbone, but is not sweet. The flavor is malty on a smooth body, again not very sweet and syrupy, but right spot on as an English barleywine.

The aroma is very rich and sweet with toasted caramel malt, toffee, dark fruit, and alcohol. The appearance is deep amber with a small head. The taste is somewhat like the aroma but is very bitter. The palate is smooth and thick. Overall I am not entirely impressed maybe it needs 10 more years. However, this is still a good beer.

11.2 ounce bottle, Not sure where exactly I purchased this, however. Likely Monument in Concord or in Berkeley. The aroma on this has lots of cardboardy oxidation with some butterscotch-like notes. The aroma has some sweet, peaty, toffee hints, too. I really enjoy the nose on this. Moderately hazy cola-colored body with a medium, fairly strong light tan head with surprisingly good head retention. Starts with a fairly sweet sherry-like flavoring. Has plenty of toffee in the middle. Light roast. Becomes a little thin and slightly watery. Finishes with a woody, papery, oxidized flavoring. Carbonation is low. This is pretty one-dimensional, and I really don’t see how any more time would improve this beer.

Pours a dark brown with a reddish hue. Small head that fades to a thin lace very quickly. Aroma of caramel, spice, ripe dark fruit, and a slight hint of toast. Full bodied flavor of dark bread, dark fruit, floral, herb/spice, malt. Foamy mouthfeel with noticable alcahol. A mild dry, syrupy finish, with a oak note. Although drinkable, It is a different barley wine than I have had before. While drinking it I had to keep reminding myself that it was barley wine and not a american strong ale. I look at the ingedients on the bottle and no barley. I look into the Traquair website and it is not referred to as barley wine. So I don’t know what this stuff is as far as a "style", it is drinkable, but nothing special.

Pours deep ruby with a large but fast sinking head. Sweet aroma with notes of wood, toffee and treacle. Thick mouthfeel. Flavour is quite sweet and has notes of wood and cherry stones. Alcohol bitter finish. Will probably improve with age.
