Bottle… This beer rocks!… Clear, burnt orange ale with a small, creamy, white head. The aroma is of toffee and smoked meat. Full-bodied with an oily mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Rich caramel and praline sweetness; mineral bitterness. Finishes sweet and beefy.

Bottle @ mgumby’s: This beer pours like a syrup-heavy cola, sticking down the sides as it sloshes into the glass. Flavor and aroma are rum-soaked raisin, and chocolate malts. Fig? I thought this did not have the intensity of flavor I was expecting for a barley wine -- malt backbone was kind of weak here as compared to the intensity of the present alcohol. Nice, but not a top contender.

A rather dark brown ale with a thin off white head. A pleasant aroma of plums, molasses, sweet treacle and light alcohol. In mouth, a good loads of molasses and licorice, with notes of black pepper, some good British hopping, tobacco. Rich bodied. A beer to be savoured. Bieropholie imports.

Thanks to The Cheeseman for sharing this rare brew. Pours a pretty clear brown color, with a small off white head. Smells of dark fruits, figs, molasses, and caramel malt. The flavor was pretty heavy on the alcohol, and much of the same as far as the nose goes. Nice bitterness is left in the finish to balance out the heavy malt presence. Pretty big and bold in its flavor. Not bad at all.

Pours a chestnut brown color. Aroma is not that of a typical barley wine. Notes of sea weed, malts, some smoke and sea water seem to dominate. Tha flavor is very malt dominant with a touch of sweetness on the finish.

Bottled. Dark burgundy coloured. DENSE light brown head. Berries, spice and sweetness in the aroma. Flavour of caramel, sweetness, berries and light plums. Medium bodied. Berries and alcohol in the end. Quite nice and easy to drink.

This is the tenth and final beer in our June 11th Old Ale Blind Tasting. It finished in 4th place. Courtesy of CigarCityBrew.

Pours clear amber with thin tan head. The aroma is date, prune, plum and raisin dark fruitiness. There’s also mild cherry candy sweet and tartness too. The taste is malty sweet leaning toward caramel. Behind that is a note of sugar coated plum sweetness. There’s some grapes mixed with caramel too. Wow, very dark fruity goodness. Almost tastes like a rich sweet grape juice. This one seems to border between the styles of English Barleywine and Old Ale.

(Bottle) Dark reddish brown colour with brief, frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with liquorice, soy sauce, dark chocolate, toffee and dark rye bread. Malty, roasted, sweetish taste with black coffee, soy sauce, chocolate, dried fruit, sweet liquorice and herbs. Fiery, sweet and herbal finish. Medium to full body, oily texture. On the sweet side, but a lovely and warming beer to sip.
