COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mainly available filtered in bottles, though part of the production goes unfiltered into cask.
The traditional brewing process used in the production of Traquair House Ale consists of the following; 1. Traditional infusion mashing process. The wort is then drawn off and boiled during which process the hops are added. 2. The wort is now cooled and pitched with top fermenting yeast under controlled temperature. It is then fermented in oak over a period of seven days. The beer is then transferred into cold storage tanks or barrels and matured over a period of weeks. After maturation the beer is filtered prior to packing.

Kurze Review von Untappd: Not as tasty as their Jacobite Ale, still quite smooth and easy drinkable.

Bottle from Willow’s Market in Menlo Park, CA. Aroma is sticky red bananas, dark cherries, cherry liqueur, herbal bitters / orange bitters, Old Fashioned. Taste is whiskey and coke, dark fruits (sugary cherries), something boozy and bourbon-y with herbal bitters. Reminded me very much of an Old Fashioned.

Backwoods Bastard is the only barrel aged Scotch Ale I have to compare Traquair House Ale to. It’s a flattering comparison, yet both are so different from one another. Unlike Backwoods Bastard (or countless other barrel brews), Traquair House is medium-bodied and extremely smooth. Aroma is malty and rich with hints of syrup. Flavor has dark fruit, caramel, toasted malt, and a hint of smoke. Aging has given the beer some oak smells and tastes, but the influence is smartly subdued. ’Bout time I had a Scotch Ale from Scotland. Damn glad I started with this one.

Bottle. A- Dark cherries, dark fruits, molasses, subtle vinegar. A- Black color, black liquid, tan head. T- Dark fruits, cherries, cocoa, malty, subtle booze, raisins, plums. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, slightly medicinal finish. O- Finally a scotch ale from their homeland. Full of dark fruits and cherry and smooooooooth. A bit of a medicine tasting finish which hurt a little but still very tasty.

Bottle from Waiitrose in Edinburgh. Aroma is caramel/toffee and slight butterscotch. Hops are very subdued which helps the other flavours to shine. There are also slight stewed/dried fruit aromas like prunes and figs. Appearance is dark like maybe a porter. Not a huge amount of head which is off-white. Taste is medium-sweet. This is basically a classic Wee Heavy, and own of the last remaining real examples of the style. Body is medium, but feels quite viscous. Carbonation is medium. I’m glad it’s not too strong as it doesn’t suit this style. Overall, I’m so glad to have found this classic. I’ve tried Founder’s - Dirty Bastard, Oskar Blues - Old Chub, and Brewdog Dogma which all love, but it’s great to try a real old time classic of the style. Fantastic.
