3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: DEC 28, 2009 2009-12-26, bb 2006-12-31, possibly 6 years old, 7-4-7-3-15=36
Brown color; short head retention. Mild aroma, a bit cheesy. The mouthfeel becomes a bit thinner, but the flavor keeps good caramel qualities; strong bitterness, it’s evident that some of it comes from the roasted malts; the final is probably shorter, surely thinner. Good, but not much complex.
Dark amber color. Malt aroma, sweet, mature. Quite good malt and caramel, medium dry, with a light liquorice final. Pleasant, but far less interesting than the Jacobite Ale.

Bottle. (RBNAG 07) Pours a clear, dark brown with a beige head. Quite sweet and malty aroma with a hint of peat. Caramel, roasted malt and some dried fruits in the aroma, not to forget the peaty notes. Quite sweet and malty finish. Full to medium mouthfeel. A nice and peaty beer I must rerate some day. (071103)

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Deep ruby colour with thin beige head. Liquor like aroma with deep brown sugar and black treacle. Smooth in mouth though and strength doesn’t dominate too much. Perfect to watch a game of rugby with on a winter’s afternoon. Good quality with lasting dry hop treacle finish. Seems odd mix, but it works well
