COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mainly available filtered in bottles, though part of the production goes unfiltered into cask.
The traditional brewing process used in the production of Traquair House Ale consists of the following; 1. Traditional infusion mashing process. The wort is then drawn off and boiled during which process the hops are added. 2. The wort is now cooled and pitched with top fermenting yeast under controlled temperature. It is then fermented in oak over a period of seven days. The beer is then transferred into cold storage tanks or barrels and matured over a period of weeks. After maturation the beer is filtered prior to packing.

A really dark coffee colour with one finger head which leaves a bit of lacing. Aroma is toffee, chocolate, dark fruits, and hints of coffee and alcohol. Taste is much the same as the nose. Full bodied and creamy mouthfeel. I really enjoyed this one.

33cl bottle poured in a Trappist glass. Pours a very translucent dark amber colour with minimal head and a few bubbles of carbonation. Mouthfeel is flat and watery. Aroma is subdued however, hints at a malt dominated brew. Taste is the same as the aroma with toffee and spicy notes join the malt domination. Very average.

Oak aged, must have been scotch barrels, because the single-malt scotch flavor is up front. Very nice - sweet, low carbonation, very good stuff.

Bottle->SA. Medium brown with big frothy lite tan head. A: sweet and roasted malts. T: same, with nice lingering bittersweet aftertaste (more sweet than bitter). Nutty and malty. Nice.

Thank you Martinus! Tasting glass from 330 ml. bottle consumed @ “The Tasting formerly known as Mons RBBAG I (2014)”. BBF 08/2022 – seriously dude? Copper red with egg white head. Nose is herbal, syrupy, sweet herbal with lots of sugar, profile is quite Belgian. Taste is lightly bitter herbal upfront followed by strong sweetness, Belgian, cough syrup, thick candy sugar,..; Oily herbal body; I have the same reservations here as I had with Traquair Jacobite Ale, this tastes like an okay Belgian & yet the scores are through the roof, I’m concussed here, is it because it was made outside of Belgium or what?

Bottle from Great Grog. Pours a murky brown with a thin head. Soft caramel notes and maybe a banana scent too on the nose. Tastes sweet, vanilla, caramel, sweet dark berries. Slow and warming finish. Very good beer

330ml bottle served in a tulip glass. A: Pours a dark amber to brown color forming a thin but persistent white to yellow head. Few lacings left in he glass S: Mainly sweet and roasted. Notes of toffee, dark chocolate, caramel malts, dark fruit esters, mainly raisins. Sweet grains T: Rich taste. Again, a sweet toffee and roasted upfront with notes of dark chocolate, dark fruits, wood, burned toffee. Excellent rosted bitterness M: Medium bodied. Molasses. Medium to low carbonation. Toffee and roasted bitterness in the aftertaste O: Great drinkability. Complex. Great Scottish Ale [ BA Review @ 8/15/2012 ]

500ml bottle into a nonic. Pours an opaque very dark brown, nearly pitch black, with a one finger medium tan head. Pretty good head retention but the lacing is lacking. Aroma is full of toffee and caramel with some hints of sherry. Touches of oak along with dark fruits and some smoke poking through. The flavor is very heavy on the figs and plums with more of the sherries note present in the aroma. Some burnt toffee and smokey notes in the background but the flavor is overwhelmingly fruity. It works in this case, though. Some woody notes in the background but they are very restrained. Subtle sweet mouthfeel with a bit of lingering stickiness. Overall, a very good scotch ale and more fruity than many of the other ones I have had. Great interplay between the wood, smoke, and fruit and well balanced. A great beer.
