COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mainly available filtered in bottles, though part of the production goes unfiltered into cask.
The traditional brewing process used in the production of Traquair House Ale consists of the following; 1. Traditional infusion mashing process. The wort is then drawn off and boiled during which process the hops are added. 2. The wort is now cooled and pitched with top fermenting yeast under controlled temperature. It is then fermented in oak over a period of seven days. The beer is then transferred into cold storage tanks or barrels and matured over a period of weeks. After maturation the beer is filtered prior to packing.

Dark ruby brown with small beige head. Nose is gently spicy, roasted malts. Same goes for flavor; roasted malts, liquorice and spices, a bit too buttery. Herbal hops in the dry finish. Medium bodied, slightly watery even. Nothing what I expected, and certainly not satisfying.

Ruby red, tiny yellow head. Aroma: toasty, lots of malt, some prunes, some decent hoppiness too and nutmeg. Flavour: sweet and malty, lots of bitterness and hoppiness with caramel and a sticky mouthfeel, long raisin finish. Nice.

Deep mahogany color with a quickly dissipating head. Red wine nose. Very dry, with an almond, slightly amaretto flavor. Overall, a bit bland and flat, but better than average.

Wow, what a surprising disappointment- Very odd grayish red-black color. Head was thin but lively. Nose of sweet port/sherry. Wood, licorice, raisins, chocolate. Slightly disappointing palete. Incredible dryness sets in at the last 1/5 of the glass.

Color is a of a chestnut brown, no real head appeared as I poured it slowly into a 10 oz tulip, just a few big bubbles, no real lace either. Aroma is all malts, loads of caramel, sweet, dark, with a earthy undertone of tobacco and wet wood. Taste is super mellow of caramel, dark toffee, some dark fruit notes of plum and banana, the malts are provided all over the place, but not thick, more so of a very clean and softly calming chewyness, thinnish to the point of becoming non-existent really. Not very flavorful. Some notes of hazelnut and molasses poke through as it warms but nothing sticks out really. Kinda boring and plain. Feel is a bit thin, the front of this is like water, nothing there, but luckily it picks up some and renders some light heft over the middle and has a smooth lightly sticky, calm, malty sweet finish that doesn't last all that long. Not something I'd buy again, nearly forgetable.
