COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mainly available filtered in bottles, though part of the production goes unfiltered into cask.
The traditional brewing process used in the production of Traquair House Ale consists of the following; 1. Traditional infusion mashing process. The wort is then drawn off and boiled during which process the hops are added. 2. The wort is now cooled and pitched with top fermenting yeast under controlled temperature. It is then fermented in oak over a period of seven days. The beer is then transferred into cold storage tanks or barrels and matured over a period of weeks. After maturation the beer is filtered prior to packing.

Dark brown with a rich malty aroma. Flavor has notes of caramel wood and smoke, a bit salty. Not as good at their Jacobite.

12 oz bottle. Pours dark brown with little head or lace. Earthy, musty, peaty aroma. Rich, burnt, peaty and astringent flavor. Decent brew, but definitely not worth the $$$.

Bottle: Very strong cocoa smell along with some fruit. Pours a hazy dark orangish-brown with virtually no head and slight lacing. Flavor is malty with dark chocolate the initial flavor then finishes bitter. Long lasting bitter aftertaste. I like the chocolate flavor but it’s not quite balanced with the bitter finish to my liking. Still a pretty good beer though.

a slightly smokey yet peaty aroma that follows into the taste. Lots of nice flavors, but a little thin. A great scotch ale and definitely one of the best example of this style that I have ever had.

Pours a brown color with a medium light brown head. Mild aroma, some malts detected, maybe some molasses. Overall, not much going on. Maybe some sweet dark fruits in there too. The taste is definitely quite malty, with just a touch of some hops in the background. A little bit of sweet cinnamon and spice shows up in the finish. The aftertaste was sweet, dark molasses and a slight bitterness. Decent brew, nothing exciting for me.

Pours a clear, dark cola color. A small, bubbly, off-white film settles to a swirly, wispy film with a bubbly edge. Minimal, sudsy lacing drapes itself about the glass. The aroma is reminiscent of flat root beer. Toasted caramel, molasses, oak and vanilla comprise the bulk of the nose. A subtle fruitiness adds a layer of complexity. The flavor is slightly different. Sweet caramel meets overly ripened dark fruits, and a touch of woodsy oak and vanilla. Medium bodied, with a fairly still mouthfeel. A touch of bitter hops bite down at the end, as the beer fades into a quick finish. Decent beer, but I had higher hopes for this one.

Great taste: fruity and malty but left a slight bitter aftertaste. Good for a Scottish ale. Prefer Dutch ales but this was good.

Bottle. (RBNAG 07) Pours a clear, dark brown with a beige head. Quite sweet and malty aroma with a hint of peat. Caramel, roasted malt and some dried fruits in the aroma, not to forget the peaty notes. Quite sweet and malty finish. Full to medium mouthfeel. A nice and peaty beer I must rerate some day.
