4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a beautiful dark brown with mahogany highlights and a surprisingly almost whitish head which does not last too long.
Nose: sweet malt with some vinous and heather like notes
Taste: Tangy vinous dark fruits and heater like almost comes across like soy sauce and dr pepper combined finishing with a lovely touch of smoke and Hop bitterness and flavor in the background coming across slightly spicy. As the beer warms up some raisin like flavors show up with chalky notes as well
Mouthfeel for the alcohol and malt richness still finishes nice and light with a long lingering raisiny and smoky finish
Overall: Still a classic so much complexity with a such a simple grain bill. The magical smokiness is wonderful a great beer to warm up to on a blustery fall evening

Malty aroma. Good scottish malted taste without any smoked or toffy notes. Jacobitwe is more interesting IMO.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Toffee, vinegar, toejam, and oak smell, thankfully not strong. Clear chestnut brown, medium tan head. Oak and toffee. Finishes with charred oak. Medium body, cask-like softness. Excellent balance. I don’t know what is going on with the aroma, but the beer tasted fine. Maybe it was my glass.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
33cl bottle bb AUG2022. Drier than a DE Bock, more reticent than a BE strong ale, yet suavely in between, this Scotch "potent liquor": woody brown malts, earthy old raisins, aged caramels, with an understated Worcester sauce savoury complexity, made palatable by more treetrunk chtonics, cured vanilla wood and even some smokiness. Easy sipper.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pullo @ Baltic Princess Pub.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Had this months ago. Lighter shade of dark brown, a bit of foam. Aroma is sweet, sticky, caramel, coca-cola. Quite nice, reveals some barleywine character. Taste is not so sweet, burnt sugar, caramel, dryly sweet without excess sweetness. Aftertaste is dry. Remind me upgraded version of Innis & Gunn. Definitely Scottish. Slow drinker but has actually some good drinkability.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Barley wine. Seems not to be bottle conditioned, which doesn’t help this beer (or any ale). Alcohol in the nose, Molasses and roasted flavours and alcohol flavour. Nice, but not as good as I was expecting.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Appearance: Deep burgundy, clear, with almost no foam head.
Aroma: Caramel, toffee, and a slight woodiness. Nothing stands out.
Taste: Rich malty sweetness with flavors of bread crust, caramel, and molasses. A definite roastiness stands out on the backside, which wasn’t noticeable in the aroma.
Mouthfeel: Medium with a light carbonation, and a hint of alcohol warmth.
Finish: Malt forward with a lingering roast.
Overall: A showcase of rich malt without some of the smokiness found in other examples. It’s fermented in oak, but I didn’t pick up any vanilla, and only a minimal toast or chocolate flavor.

Really old backlog rating. 33cl bottle from A Tutta Birra, Milano. It pours a brown color with ruby edges and a medium beige head. Aroma is sweet, fruity, boozy, rich, sticky, with vanilla, molasses, persimmon, maramalde. Taste is slightly smoky, fruity, malty. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Overall, sweet but delicious
