Commercial Description:
The famous Bear Gates guarding the approach to Traquair House, near Pebbles, have been closed since 1745 - when the last person to pass through them was Bonnie Prince Charlie.

Now, 250 years later, the ancient Traquair Brew House celebrates the Jacobite cause by producing this potent spiced ale to a traditional fine recipe. Sip slowly and remember the old toast to the "King O'er the Water."

Bottle. Could’ve sworn I’ve rated this before, but at least I don’t seem to have any rating of it on here... Thus: Pours a deep, dark ruby, with a beautiful, (but sadly shortlived) petite foamy beige head. Aroma is spicy, with molasses, malts, dark fruit, licorice and mocha. Very full body, with mild carbonation and clean mouthfeel. Spicy, sweetish flavour, featuring malts, dark fruit, licorice, a hint of alcohol (though amazingly little considering the abv). Orange rind, perhaps? Alcohol returns slightly stronger in finish, together with a kind of fruity sourness (like apples rather than citrus). Yuymmy, but perhaps not quite as yummy as I remembered it. Guess I’ll have to try again in a couple of years.

What a beer. Extra dark brown color. Small white head. Subtle, but pleasant aroma. Rich, malty flavor - then coffee, coriander and plum. Remarkably tasty.

Complessa e nien’affatto noiosa.Grande birra

Almost black beer with small beige head. Aroma is complex and pleasant: some sweetness, berries, strawberries and hint of alcohol. Flavour is also complex, berries, slightly trappist-like, even like wine and quite dry and spicy in the end. Full-bodied and nicely slippery to drink. Appereance differs from aroma and flavor and that was surprise for me. Traquair Jacobite Ale is very complex beer and you cannot bore this beer.

Bottle. Dark brown colour with a very small off-white head. Spicy aroma with notes of liquorice, plum and some sweetness. The flavour is very spicy and malty with some liquorice, coriander, pepper and toffee. Medium-bodied and smooth mouthfeel. Reminds me a bit of Rochefort. Delicious.

Haven’t been back since this place blew up so I will start by shooting off some half assed, non analytical reviews of my favorite beers. Hoo boy, this is lovely, the nose is so nicely spicy, chocolate, one of the most elegant bodies in beer I have encountered. I would pass a reasonably good lay for this. I am gay for beer.

330 ml bottle, Dark ruby pour. Aroma has fruits and berries. Quite flavorful without having any of the flavors is too strong or overwhelming Tiny hints of chocolate. Carbonation is just right, not too much. Delicious well balanced spiced ale.

Dark and very beutiful ruby color. Thin head is blond and quite creamy. The aroma is powerful. It has lots of malts, dark fruits (raisins, dates), sweet berries, wine qums and some alcohol in the finish with quite intense licorice aroma and darker malts. The flavor is vinous, strong on sweetish maltiness and chewy fruitiness. Alcohol is present in the finish. Low bitterness. The palate is slick, slightly syrupy, low carbonated and medium to full bodied.
