Commercial Description:
The famous Bear Gates guarding the approach to Traquair House, near Pebbles, have been closed since 1745 - when the last person to pass through them was Bonnie Prince Charlie.

Now, 250 years later, the ancient Traquair Brew House celebrates the Jacobite cause by producing this potent spiced ale to a traditional fine recipe. Sip slowly and remember the old toast to the "King O'er the Water."

Bottle at MacNiven’s. Served in snifter. No head formation even when poured correctly. Black body. Aroma was godly. Berries, liquorice, pear, soy sauce, to name a few. Taste was very complex and very available. I was not sure what coriander tasted like, but since this was brewed with coriander, I will assume the unique flavor I got was that. In addition was raisin, liquorice, and clove. Really sweetened as it warmed. Not very often I’ve had an intense and complex beer be so easy to enjoy. Palate was thick, but had a light quality which did not allow a sticky feel. Very interesting.

Almost black brown with a touch of amber. Just a streak of lacing, no head at all. Aromas of raisons, coffee, corriander, tamarind. Lightly carbonated. Darkly malty, but not too sweet. Moderately spicy, fig, coffee, cocoa,

The Jacobite was a very dark wood brown pour. Small foam almond head. Like a spicy root beer although more complex and more character. Nice malt quality, dark fruits but on the low down. Smooth with the spiciness subdued and the ABV just right. Worth a try for sure.

The experience starts with a light root beer color pour and a wonderful, nostalgic aroma that reminds me of old time spice stick candy and bazooka bubble gum. There is something else even more telling in there that remains just out of my grasp so I must try again. The flavor was surprisingly simple, a malty sweet flavor without any unpleasantness.

330ml Bottle - Gravity Beer Market - Olympia, WA
Aroma – Huge malt aroma with very little hops. The spice and sweet aroma come through. Appearance – Black in color, thin head and clear.
Flavor – Great dark roasty malt flavor. Very spicy and dried fruit flavor.
Palate – Nice Mouthfeel, good texture with a dry finish.
Overall – This was a very good traditional dark ale. Very tasty and tons of great malt flavors.

Black colored brew. Very nice sweet aroma of spices and fruits. Flavor has chocolate malts, spices and some fruits. Good hopbitterness. Overall a good brew.
