Commercial Description:
The famous Bear Gates guarding the approach to Traquair House, near Pebbles, have been closed since 1745 - when the last person to pass through them was Bonnie Prince Charlie.

Now, 250 years later, the ancient Traquair Brew House celebrates the Jacobite cause by producing this potent spiced ale to a traditional fine recipe. Sip slowly and remember the old toast to the "King O'er the Water."

Bottled. An unclear dark brown beer with a very nice small brown head. Very interesting nose with coriander, chocolate and other spices. The flavour is malty and spicy with notes of coriander and chocolate again plus some molasses and roasted malt. Medium body, average carbonation, medium bitterness in a finish that’s quite long. The alcohol is well hidden, so this beer is very complex and flavourful and yet drinkable. Unusual British beer (but maybe unusual in general), some flavours remember a Belgian beer. I want another one.

Dark brown with a minimal head a nd little lacing, not surprising with 8% alcohol, though. Fruity and malty nose with some hint of spice. Taste is earthy with dark malts and fruit. The corriander is noticeable, but not overpowering. Smooth mouthfeel with light carbonation. Slight alcohol burn, but is pleasant and balances well with the overall beer.

Spiced aroma reminds me of mulling spices, pinecones and coffee. Very dark clear brown, faint ring of a head in the glass. Delicately complex, lots of dried wood, some orange peel. Low carbonation, smooth elegant mouthfeel, only a hint of the alcohol comes through.

bottle. Brown pour. small head. Aroma is spicy, malty and has some notes of dark dried fruits. Flavor is a bit sweet, with wood, raisins, booze, caramel and spices. Nice. Very nice.

Bottle 330ml. Poured a clear brown color with a small off-white head that diminished quickly. Good aroma of coriander, raisin and malt. Medium body with smooth texture. Good fruity bitter sweet flavor with long pleasing finish. Interesting brew.
