madsberg (4374), Bangalore, India Nov 27, 2002 Dark ruby colour with a huge chocolatish head. Very tempting. The aroma is full of scents. Chocolate, spices (almost reminds me of the better dobbelbocks). Flavour is complex. Loads of coffee, chocolate, malt and spices. Has a good lasting aftertaste with a hint of coffeebitterness. This is truely great stuff. Happy i’ve found it.
Snojerk321 (1024), San Diego, California, USA Oct 11, 2008 11oz bottle. Pours a mostly clear dark brown with a fizzy beige head that dissipated quickly. Nose held maple syrup, caramel, toffee and some spiced aromas. Flavor was quite sweet and rich with toasted malts and candied dark fruits. A medium bodied brew, great stuff. j_b (755), Rochester, New York, USA Oct 1, 2008 My first ’product of Scotland’, very interesting and unique stuff. Not much of a head to this dark murky reddish brew. Chocolate + plums + smoke in the nose. Sweet initial taste, along with small bubbles, followed by roasted notes that takes you down easy. Enjoyable. Rune (1812), Tromsø, Norway Oct 1, 2008 Sampled from a bottle provided by Øl Konsortiet at EBF 08. Russet-like body colour with a moderate, beige head. Aroma of spiced fruits. Vinous taste of dark fruits and malts, herbs and liquorice. A touch of hop resin in the aftertaste. I’ll go for a bottle of this one when I get the chance (night cap, late on 12.09.208). The_Epeeist (980), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 26, 2008 11.2 oz bottle, BB 2014. Clear crimson brown with a tan haze. Nose is blueberry, plum brandy, fig and toffee. Mediumish body with faint carb. Taste is raisin, dates, wood and grape skins. Dry bitter finish. Sticky, not too sweet, kind of boring.
