COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The famous Bear Gates guarding the approach to Traquair House, near Pebbles, have been closed since 1745 - when the last person to pass through them was Bonnie Prince Charlie.

Now, 250 years later, the ancient Traquair Brew House celebrates the Jacobite cause by producing this potent spiced ale to a traditional fine recipe. Sip slowly and remember the old toast to the "King O'er the Water."

Bottle. Aromas of smoky malt and syrupy brown sugar on an odd spicy background. A definite flavour of coriander, plus tree leaf, Ovaltine and a general herbaciousness. While the effort and originality is impressive, the overall profile is a little too peculiar; would not have again.

UPDATED: DEC 20, 2014 Bottle. Pours deep clear amber with beige head with big bubbles. Aroma is tons of dark fruits, toasted malts, berries, nutty and subtle sweet port. Taste is sweet, bready dark malts, caramel and toasty. Body is bit sticky and sugary and medium to full. Toasty finish and only subtle spices. Slight booze.

Aroma is Belgian candy sugar, apple, plum, sweet malts and yeast. Taste is a nice sweet malt body with dark fruit notes. Moderate luquor snap but not bad at all. Appearance is a clear copper with a thin pearl head that retains fairly well

0,33 pullo@ OPP. Ei kovin sameaa, punertavan tummanruskea. Tuoksussa hyvin makeaa mallasta, karamellia, tummaa marjaa, luumua, siirappia, suklaata. Maussa pehmeää tummaa paahteista mallasta, palanutta karamellia, tummaa hedelmää.

330ml bottle. Dark amber shade. What little head there is doesn’t last long. Aroma is packed full of burnt bread, cola, peat, wood and liquorice. Taste follows similar lines, with added notes of sweet caramel malt and red berries. It’s interesting and distinctive so I give it the thumbs up.

Saturated dark tea pours into a clear blood red-amber-brown body with a large eclectic structured bone white head fading quickly to a whispy cap and solid ring, minimal lacing

Aromas and flavors are as restrained as interesting and complex, balanced with nuances typical of dark belgian beers, dark fruit, cinnamon spice, apples and pears, some circus peanuts candy, an overlay of english caramels, red licorice, some faint wild accents woft away and seem to evolve into toasted oak no a med body which comes off a bit watery yet smooth, soft dryness with some dusty wood and nutty layers to finish, everything works harmoniously, and the label is killer

12oz bottle served at 45º into 13.25oz Stölzle Berlin glass

330ml bottle from Valhallas Goat. Aroma is chocolate for me while the flavour has chocolate and spice. Minimal head, low carbonation. Very pleasant ale.

Bottle from Colonial Spirits. Brilliantly clear dark brown with wonderfully garnet highlights and a smallish off white head that took some coaxing to stir up and dissipated quite quickly. Aromas of stone fruit and brown sugary caramel and toffee with hints of smoke, light wood and non descript spice. The flavor follows through on what the aroma promised. Dark sugary maltiness with hints of caramelized sugars with lots of cherry and almond notes with touches of prunes and raisins. Light spice and alcohol flavor. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet lightly syrupy mouthfeel. Wonderfully complex sipping beer.

Pours dark with good tan head. Slight fruity yeasty aroma. Quite high effervescence. Very light taste initially but soon develops to a lingering burnt apricot finish. Interesting beer, but doesn’t beat the Traquair House Ale for me, which is still my favourite scotch.
