| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Nov 23, 2009 Bottle. Pours dark brown with golden highlights and an average cream coloured head. Roasty ashy aroma with sweet grainy undertones. Palate is noticeably thin, with bitter chocolate and ashy roast dominating the flavour. Not bad, but a bit of a disappointment I guess, considering how much I like the other brews from these guys. zeek (20), British Columbia, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 20, 2009 Color is beautiful, but low carbonation means little head. Aroma is very light considering the dark color.
The roasted malt from the porter overpowers anything the ale might have brought to this beer. A very pleasant, smooth taste, and very clean finish for a dark beer.
Not bad, but nothing special. May buy again. TheHulk (123), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada
| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Nov 16, 2009 Difficult to find a smell, its much too faint. Nice and darkish, but could be darker and theres no head. Meduim malt dark flavour, finishes nicely with a strong malt and hop combo. Alright, but tastes too much like kit brew - sugary malt with hop flavour coming too far after and separate. CapFlu (3482), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Nov 14, 2009 (650ml bottle) Purchased at BCLS Fort Street in Victoria, B.C., for $5.42. Pours a lasting white, large head with a copper-mahogany coloured body. Nose of sweet corn malt, burnt toffee and some slight egg. Really not what I was expecting - nor is the 5% ABV as the malt content and winter delivery made me think I would be sampling a 7%+ beer. It is weak in flavour, the porter tastes mostly ashy while the pale ale is corny and as I’d previously mentioned - somewhat eggy? Either way, I’d definitely take a fresh bottle of Phillips Black Toque Brown Ale/IPA over this... not to mention Phillips $4.30 price tag versus this $5.42 - because hey if I’m shopping in that league I’d likely grab me a 750ml 8% La Maudite for $5.99. Not good value for money. Cole (291), , Alberta, Canada

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 28, 2009 Pours a translucent dark brown with a one inch head. The aroma is slightly roasty with hints of hops (very distintivley the hops used in cutthroat), marris otter malt, and yeast (1056, no question). The taste is similar to the nose. Run to the mill beer. I probably won’t buy this again, even if it is for a good cause.
