A sweet aroma with hints of toffee, light caramel and hazelnut. A deep brown reddish hue with a clean smooth finish.

Une grande tête marron sur une bière marron/orange brumeux. L’arôme est fort du sucre brun avec du levure et les raisins sec. C’est très sucré en bouche avec un goût du sucre brun et rasins sec. C’est aussi très malté.

Bottle from czar, thanks! Pours a medium brown with some reddish highlights like advertised. Head is moderately high and sticks to the side of the glass leaving some really nice lacing patterns. Nose is of raisins, nuts and light alcohol. Taste is sweet but also bitter so balance is preserved. Flavors include raisins again (raisin bread even), some light green apples and caramel. Body is full, carbonation medium and mouthfeel not quite syrupy but at least sticky. Not bad at all, actually really good but I wish they would package it in a smaller bottle.

Poured from a 600ml bottle, hazy orangey brown. Thin tan head, disappears quickly. Aroma is raisin and toasty malt. Flavor is big and malty sweet with lots of dark fruit, not flying but definitely a sweet rich Beer.

A deep red with an inch of head. Small amount of toffee malts and fruity yeast on the nose. The taste is tart fruit, grapes and figs, no alcohol is noticeable. No trace of hops. The mouth feel is full but light and easy to drink.

Bottle. Clear, deep red-brown pour with a frothy beige head. Roasty malt aromas, a bit of toffee. Very malty flavour, some caramel and toffee, and a light hoppy edge. Quite a nice doppelbock.

Poured from 650mL bottle. Clear, auburn brown with beige head. Subtle bitterness and sweetness leads to a complex, but lacking in a good balance. Seems it doesn’t quite know what it wants to be. I like it, but it’s missing something I can’t quite put my finger on. Some caramel, nuts, and resin.

Very creamy and smooth, leaves the palate clean, slightly sweet, but not too sweet. Does not have high alcohol flavour. Caramel notes. Best doppelbock I’ve ever had.

January 3, 2014. 650mL bottle from LCBO some time ago, pulled from our ’cellar’. Raisins in aroma and taste. Lovely brown colour in glass. Lingering lager taste very minimal. Very nice dopplebock.

650 mL bottle from the LCBO, served in a stem glass. Pours clear caramel with a small tan head that fades to a thin remnant and leaves a small amount of fine lace. On the nose, there are notes of caramel, brown sugar and nutty malts, along with a touch of herbal hops. The flavour is moderately sweet with nutty malts, brown sugar and caramel, along with touches of apple, herbs and spice. The finish is long and malty with hops and a slight pepper. On the palate it is medium in body with a smooth milky texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a decent Doppelbock, with nice balance and nutty malts. 2013-05-04
