3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Brewfessor (4) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 4, 2013 does not count
Bottle from BC Liquor Store consumed in a Lager Glass. April 23, 2013.
Aroma: Dark caramel and molasses malt, clean lager yeast/bready smell, slight apricot and some toffee.
Appearance: Dark ruby-brown, lighter ruby highlights. Off-white to light tan head that dissipates rather quickly.
Taste: Malty caramel richness. Prunes, dates, figs... all manners of dried fruit. Bready and toasty with a noticeable alcohol taste.
Mouthfeel: Medium-Full body. Alcohol creates a warmth and some astringency. Moderately low carbonation
Overall: Good beer overall. Nice to see more interesting German styles being done well in BC.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 gilvanblight (686) - Windsor, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 31, 2013
Tree Brewing Captivator DoppelBock Limited Edition
Clear brown pour with almost no head. Malty raisiny scent. Thick, very thick. Lots of caramel and some tartness. Toffee, like that hard sponge toffee. A hint of nuts. Surprisingly not boozy given the 8%
2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 DeanF (1602) - Nunavut, CANADA - MAY 24, 2013
Oddly enough my bottle has very little purple going on like the photo, but more of a grey colour. Has a dark, but not jet black, body and decent dark beige head. Aroma is fusels and barley, some fruitiness and sugary notes; it smells like it’s been infused already, could be an over-alcoholized mess. Flavour is strong barley notes with a bit of rotten swamp in there and a burnt wood finish. Wonky aftertaste. This is an unbalanced doppelbock, probably appealing to some but certainly not me.
3.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 JenConCol (25) - - MAY 11, 2013
Beautiful red brown hue. Thick, foamy head but very thin level. Hazelnut and toffee notes on the nose and palate. Smooth and enjoyable. Watch out for 8% as it is well hidden. Drank from 650ml bottle.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Tessic (748) - Brantford, Ontario, CANADA - APR 28, 2013
This bock poured a deep red colour with a quick living, soapy style, white head. Scents include ripe fruit, brandy, caramel and raisins. First sip was smooth and a little thin with flavours of the ripe fruit and roast. Finish is slightly sweet with ripe fruit flavours lingering.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 pushkinwow (1371) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - APR 27, 2013
Bomber. Brownish with a biege head that disappears. Malty, caramel, some plum, fruity, toasty. Moderate body and carbonation, sweet at first, somewhat fermented prunes and plums, hazelnut, then the hops kick in and you get a more bitter taste on the palate with a hint of dryness.

(bottle) clear reddish brown colour with a small brown head; aromas of sweet stewed fruit, caramel; flavour starts sweet and transitions into long light bitter finish; very good
