3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
caramel, toast, roasty, hay, grass, resin, earthy, black, clear, frothy, tan foam, light sweetness, very bitter, lightly sour, light body, thin feel, average carbonation, bitter, long finish
Dark black pour with slow rising, persisting tan foam. Burst of hop aroma initially that hits hard. Green hop aromas of grass and spruce resin combine with the burnt toast sweetness of the malt. Taste is very bitter, but as one prgresses through the glass, a malty sweetness begins to take hold. Mouthfeel is thin with an average carbonation. Noticed some chalkyness as well. No noticeable alcohol heat despite higher ABV. Finish is mildly dry, with a pronounced dark, burnt coffee bitterness that lingers a long time. Reccommend serving at slightly warmer temp: 8-10C to allow for full aroma and flavour appreciation. Nice beer.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Very dark, with a hint of ruby and a large rocky coffee and cream coloured head, leaving copious lacing on the glass. Complex aroma of coffee, dark chocolate, toasted grains, caramel, citrus, pine and herbal hops. Medium bodied, with a little more carbonation than I prefer, the taste is an epic battle of sweet malts and bitter hops with flavours like the aroma and a long dry acidic finish. Excellent.

341mL Bottle 8.8%, from the Tree Hop Pack. Pours a sinful black, with a bubbly tan head. Aroma is a violent clash between toasted malt, and floral/earthy hops. Taste is extremely hoppy, tempered with a pleasant coffee, chocolate, burnt sugar sweetness that disguises the higher abv quite well. I was skeptical as I had never embarked on a black IPA. Once you go black...

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
650ml bottle pours black in color with a finger of light beige head that leaves some decent lacing behind. Aroma is light chocolate and citrus. Taste is a roasted grain and citrus bitterness with a chocolate malty sweetness. Flavors are well blended and favourable. Body is medium to heavy and carbonation is acceptable. A nicely done black IPA that I definitely recommend to others.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours an opaque black colour, with a foamy off white head. The aroma notes include dark chocolate, coffee, toffee, black liquorice, and roasted grains. Tasting notes include an initial blast of bitter dark chocolate, evolving into toffee, coffee, mango bitterness, some grapefruit, and a soft velvety chocolate finish.
This is an excellent beer, delicious and very drinkable! Tree Brewing just keeps on producing excellent products!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Very well balanced and complex brew, lots of dark chocolate and coffee flavours a la stout but then out of nowhere comes the resiny hop bitterness and slaps you in the face. Lovely looking beer too, jet black and completely opaque with a nice tan head that laces. Aromas are licorice, toffee, coffee and chocolate raisins. Kicks some too, with a distinct alcohol warmth lingering after the long bitter finish.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from LCBO. Pours a very dark brown with a one finger foamy beige head that disappears quickly. Aroma is chocolate and malt with piney hops in the background. Sweet chocolate and coffee with bitterness at the end. Very well balanced. Nice creamy mouth and not nearly as heavy as it looks. All that is good in a stout and an IPA.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Perfect pour of grey dark beige head and a very brown-black body. Good job on the looks! Solid aroma of overlapping hops with barley notes in the background, creating an appealing complexity: coffee notes, chocolate, well balanced indeed. Flavour is a nice bitter mix of heavy hops with barley stout, coffee and bitter hoppiness in a perfect mix. Dry finish. Tree totally hit the mark with this one. Well done.
