probstblueribbon (2378) - Nepean, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 6, 2012
Bomber from LCBO, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.

App.: Deep brown-black with a large mocha head. Aroma: Rich molasses, licorice, some caramel/toffee/brown sugar, dark chocolate and black coffee notes, really stout-like with very little hop presence. Palate: Medium-full body, elegant effervescence. Flav.: Lots of rich, dark-roasted malt notes, chocolate mainly with some coffee and a bit of molasses/licorice/brown sugar, inky and lingering, quite malt-forward with very little hops; off-dry with good bitterness and a long, lingering, inky molasses finish.

More like a big stout or borderline Impy Stout. I like it, but it doesn’t seem like a BIPA.

2012-05-04. Very dark brown near black body, small beige head. Mild aroma, dark malt and leafy earthy green hops. Very light roast. 7+ Flavour is similar, light dark roast, modest leafy green hops, mild citrus. light bitterness. 7+ Alcohol is remarkably restrained. Smooth average plus palate. Enjoyable, bit mild but pretty solid and quaffable. Bottle shared by GregClow

With thanks to GregClow. Appearance: incredibly deep black, the vigorous pour makes for a good white head Aroma: a little vegetal, decent amount of hops, roasty, hint of toffee. Flavour: treacle, some alcohol, kind of thin and syrupy, quite malty, tangy with a coffee finish.

Gerbeer (853) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 8, 2012
650 ml bottle. Purchased at 16th St. Pours a dark brown with tan head that dissipates quickly. Malt, chocolate, and red fruit to the nose. Dark chocolate, roasted malts and a little bit of citrus followed by bitter hops.. Tasty but is this really an IPA?

Deep black with foamy tan head. Aroma of booze and coffee. Taste of burnt sugar and dark roast coffee. Some licorice as well. I like the other hopheads but this misses the mark for me. 8% that tastes like 13%

mcberko (4044) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 26, 2012
650mL bottle, pours a dark brown / black with a reddish tinge and small tan head. Chocolatey, roasted malt and some toasted nuts on the nose with little hop presence detectable. Flavour brings out the hops more noticeably, beginning with some toasted nuts roasted malt, espresso, some burnt notes, burnt brown sugar and bitter chocolate, ending with some bitter citrus hops and burnt notes. Nicely balanced with a medium-to-full body and an astringent finish. Very solid offering from Tree.

This is a very good beer. Right up my alley. Pours nice and dark black ruby, with a nice thick slow cappuccino head that lasts and lasts. Very nice appearance. Tastes are of roasted malts and layered through with floral notes true to the IPA style. Nice carbonation for an overall good mouthfeel. I’m a fan for sure. I’d session the crap outta this one.

Bottle purchased from Darby's. Pours a dense tan cap on a deep dark brown base. Aroma is water-soaked nuts, slight coffee. Taste is roasted malt, some wood, bit of grass, good hop bite, and alcohol. The tastes need some coaxing, but a decent beer.
