4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 Canmoore (79) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 12, 2013
Pours an opaque black colour, with a foamy off white head. The aroma notes include dark chocolate, coffee, toffee, black liquorice, and roasted grains. Tasting notes include an initial blast of bitter dark chocolate, evolving into toffee, coffee, mango bitterness, some grapefruit, and a soft velvety chocolate finish.
This is an excellent beer, delicious and very drinkable! Tree Brewing just keeps on producing excellent products!
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Hateball16 (90) - - JUN 8, 2013
Very well balanced and complex brew, lots of dark chocolate and coffee flavours a la stout but then out of nowhere comes the resiny hop bitterness and slaps you in the face. Lovely looking beer too, jet black and completely opaque with a nice tan head that laces. Aromas are licorice, toffee, coffee and chocolate raisins. Kicks some too, with a distinct alcohol warmth lingering after the long bitter finish.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 jksipa (15) - NEWMARKET, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 31, 2013
Bottle from LCBO. Pours a very dark brown with a one finger foamy beige head that disappears quickly. Aroma is chocolate and malt with piney hops in the background. Sweet chocolate and coffee with bitterness at the end. Very well balanced. Nice creamy mouth and not nearly as heavy as it looks. All that is good in a stout and an IPA.
4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 DeanF (1602) - Nunavut, CANADA - MAY 24, 2013
Perfect pour of grey dark beige head and a very brown-black body. Good job on the looks! Solid aroma of overlapping hops with barley notes in the background, creating an appealing complexity: coffee notes, chocolate, well balanced indeed. Flavour is a nice bitter mix of heavy hops with barley stout, coffee and bitter hoppiness in a perfect mix. Dry finish. Tree totally hit the mark with this one. Well done.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Freaky_tiki (87) - Ontario, CANADA - MAY 18, 2013
Dark pour with muddy one finger cap the dimples nicely. Is it a porter? Is it an ipa? Is that a licorice sans sugar after taste? Good stuff.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 thebhoy (61) - Ontario, CANADA - MAY 17, 2013
Bottle from the LCBO. A very nice black IPA that very much tastes like a really hoppy porter. With that in mind, aroma and taste follow suit: roasted barley, caramel, and malt on the nose and in taste with a nice bitter spike of piney citrus from the hops. Pours a deep-brown/black with a tan head that holds up fairly well--some lacing on the glass. A nice solid drink that makes a triple threat of good IPAs from Tree Brewing (variations of the Hop Head brand).
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Papsoe (25129) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - FEB 24, 2013
Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of fiulijn. Pours an opaque black with a small off-white head. Roasty nose, a little cocoa. Medium body, heavy roast and a massive, rough and unsophisticated bitterness with close to no aromatic qualities. Very harsh. Not how I like my IPA’s! 230213

Black color, medium sized brownish head. Some aroma of roasted malt followed by nice fruitiness. Dark caramel and roasted malt flavor, then coffee; there is some sweetness appearing in the end; strong hopping. Bold and zesty.
