341mL bottle poured a dark reddish-brown color with an abundant tan head that settled quite quickly to a nice lacing. Aroma of roasted malts and some nutty chocolate. Taste is roasted malty sweetness with some chocolate and a very mild hop bitterness in the finish. This beer is decently balanced with good carbonation, but the body is a little on the thin side for a porter style beer.

Bottle. Pours a very dark but clear amber. Aroma of roasted malts and chocolate. Tastes of roast malt, chocolate, and toffee. Medium-bodies with light, well-balanced hop notes. Very good!

Dark brown/black with creamy tan head, ok retention. Nose is toffee malt, a little grassy/soapiness. Light mouthfeel, lager like smoothness, burnt plum, bubblegum, root beer, light grassy bitterness. I don’t really know where this beer is going, but aside from the bubblegum flavor it’s not a bad easy drinking beer.

Bottle: Pours black, an off white head. Aroma is odd - sour, almost lactic, chocolate notes that come off like a bottle of Yoohoo. Flavour offers almond, sugar, roasty malts, and try as I might to ignore it, paper. I’m reading down and thinking my bottle must have been off, courtesy of Volo’s bottle sell off. I know I’ve had bad bottles there before, I’m hoping that’s the case here?

Bottle. Nice dark brown ale with 2 finger head that disappears quickly. Mild chocolate aroma. Taste also has a hint of chocolate. Malt has medium body, so on the thin side for a Porter. Not a lot of hops in evidence and carbonation is a little on the low side, but not out of tolerance for a beer like this. Not too sweet.

Much darker than I expected for a domestic porter. Nice and dark but the carbonation is gone too quickly. Looks good at first though. Smells like deep rich malts and tastes it too. The flavour is strong and quite nice but is mellowed by lack of alcohal to make up for the darkness. This ought to be 8% instead of just 5%. Much nicer than I expected, I’ll have to look for this one again.

A seasonal (winter) release, this poured with a drak brown colour and a creamy tan head. Aroma was somewhat mild, only a bit malty. Taste was likewise, lighter on the malt than I’d prefer but still, a creamy smooth drink.

Vertical Bacon Strips (1693) - Asshat, Alberta, CANADA - JUN 14, 2009
Good standard deep brown brew with red highlights, a thick, longlasting tan cap and a large ammount lacing that shouldn’t really suprise me considering the quality of beers that Tree consistantly puts out. The aroma is notable due to the presence of a hazelnut scent that exists faintly on top of the full smell of the roasted malts and is complimented with a powdery dark chocolate which does not overpower whatsoever. Taste is good appealing enough but the bitterness is a touch too prominent - but good none the less. Dry biscuity roasted malts, a faint sweet flavour that shows up at the end of a mouthfull and burnt tastes all blend together finely. The hops come across a bit acidy and overspiced and this doesn’t appeal alot to me. Smooth, medium bodied +, pleasing mouthfeel and nice after taste, aside from the extra hops.

A very dark looking beer, almost black and there’s a strange purple glow around the edges of my glass, and when held up to the light turns a dark red color with light passing straight threw, a two finger tan cap is present until the first couple of sips. This beer does have very nice lacing and I’ve never said that about a beer before so that’s something special. Burnt chocolate is what I notice most about the smell, and a very strange hop smell witch is kind of strange for a porter. The feel is very thin and there to much carbonation for me, I can’t stop burping. Burnt chocolate is the most apparent taste and a very slight vanilla, and weird I can diffently taste hops, I like hops but not in a porter. It was a drinkable beer but not one I’d buy again there are much better choices out there.
