COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A rich full-bodied ale dominated by chocolate and roasted malt flavours. A subtle bitterness leads to a long creamy finish on this aphotic beauty.

Black body, brown lasting foamy head and nice lacing. Has a roast and lactose aroma. Taste is pretty much the typical dry stout. More or less a Guinness. Decent.

Bottle. Black in colour with moderate carbonation. Aromas are of semi-sweet chocolate chips, and espresso grounds. Strikes a great balance in the flavor department between the fairly assertive roast and the more mellow milk chocolate and vanilla elements. Medium bodied with a drying finish. Definitely a stout you could drink a couple of pints of without getting palate fatigue.

Bottle. Very dark - nearly black - pour with a mocha head. Aroma is malty chocolate, a little roasty cocoa. Flavour is thinner than expected, but decent roasty chocolate, more bitter than sweet. Perhaps a bit overcarbonated. Pretty decent stout.

Pours black with beige head. Aromas are roasted malts, dark chocolate. Nice smooth and creamy texture. Bitter chocolate with some lactose and bitter malts. Basic stout.

ENG: 650ml bottle from Liquor Mart in Winnipeg, poured into the Teku glass. Opaque, opalescent brown-black color, medium, dissipating beige head. Aromas like smoke from fire with some sausages cooking on. Coffee. Tastes smoky, roasty, malty with hints of caramel, cocoa and coffee. Very soft bitter aftertaste. Low carbonation, medium body, a bit too watery. Overall I feel a lack of depth in the flavors. It’s too watery. Aromas are nice though.

PL: Butelka 650ml kupiona w Liquor Mart w Winnipeg, przelana do Teku. Barwa brunatno-smolista, opalizująca, piana beżowa, średnia, zanikająca. Aromaty przypominają palące się ognisko z pieczonymi nad nim kiełbaskami. Kawa. W smaku wędzone, palone, słodowe, z nutami karmelu, kakao oraz kawy. Bardzo delikatna goryczka w posmaku. Niskie nasycenie, średnie odczucie w ustach. Dość wodniste. Podsumowując paleta smaków dość uboga, płytka. Piwo zbyt wodniste. Aromaty ładne.

On tap at St. Augustine’s, pours black with a small tan head. Nose brings out a good balance of roasted malt, oats, and dry cocoa. Flavour is very dry, with lots of oats upfront, followed by toasted bready malt. Bone dry palate - could actually use a touch of sweetness. As is, very good, drinkable stout.

Pours black with a nice cloudy and good lacing. The taste is coffee, caramel, cocoa and a slight bitterness at the end. Very smooth and well balanced.

Bomber. Hueless darkest brown, mocha foam mostly fades. Aroma of chocolate and dark roasted malt. Taste is milder roasted malt, slightly milky sweet chocolate. Softer carbonation, medium bodied, lightly hopped. Lightly bitter roasty finish. NFL (Not For Lagerboys)

Ever since I tried Tree Brewing’s Spy Porter, I have looked forward to their offerings in black beer, and Old School is no slouch. Pour motor-oil black with a thick tan head, scent of chocolate and coffee, which comes back again in spades with the taste. This is a beer for chocolate lovers and no mistake. While not exactly something you’d use for a long session, it is nonetheless a superb beer worth savouring.

Aroma is dark malts, chocolate, mocha, and vanilla. Taste and a rich roastiness and dark sweet malts. Finishes with a fair amout of bitterness. Slight tang and earthiness. Appearance is a black body with a light brown bubbly head that retains fairly well.
