3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz. bottle. Pours a medium amber/brown with a generous off-white head that lasted through the entire glass. Light aroma of citrus. Flavor is initially slightly sweet. The follow-through is bitter as expected in an IPA. This beer represents the style very well.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Best before Oct 2006 bottle consumed on 5/26/06.<!-- br -->Foamy white head is formed from a large amount of forced carb. It does do quite the job, as it’s slow to recede and even provides light lacing. You can smell the sweet sugars and dextrins that create it, as well. The body is a bright amber-honey with deep notes of brass. Head fades to nothing and a ring, fairly rapidly though.<!-- br -->The nose is butter and hops. So much hops that you almost don’t mind the butter. Simple, light crystal malts and tons of sweet pale malts certainly add balance. Leafy and herbal, with fresh wintergreen-like notes. Hoppy and quite well aromatic, but the butter invades.<!-- br -->Quite hoppy, I suppose you could almost say assertively so, for an English hopped beer, but it tastes like some grapefruit as well. Tons of caramel sweetness balances and adds plenty of body, but the carbonation is large and loose. Quite bitter and not at all an incompetent IPA. Probably more to Shipyard keeping the recipe unchanged and less because it’s brewed by Shipyard. Without Shipyard’s poor use of Ringwood and the filtration and pasteurization, this could be some top-notch stuff. It’s certainly plenty more clean and dry than Shipyard’s Fuggles IPA. Not as insipidly sweet either, as the hops provide a high amount of cleansing bitterness and dry, herbal-citrus flavor. Smooth mouthfeel, fresh overall and well-attenuated. No alcohol noted in aroma or flavor.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a light golden brown with barely any head. Aroma is sweet and fruity, with hints of caramel and grapefruit. Goes down very smooth, with only a slight hoppy bitterness at the back of your throat. A well-balanced beer; the malts are more prominent than in most American IPAs. Definitely brewed in the English style. Overall, not bad, and it leaves a nice coating on the roof of your mouth.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. A wonderful IPA in the more traditional English style. The aroma and flavor of hops nciely balances with malts. Pours clear yellow with asmall head. Aromas of malt and caramel. I really enjoyed this beer.
