Brownhoist draws its name from the rich industrial history of Bay City. Industrial Brownhoist was once a major manufacturer of industrial cranes, where many are still in operation today! Our Nut Brown Ale is medium bodied with a rich mahogany-brown color. We use five different types of premium-malted barley and two hop varieties for the malty flavor with a perfect balance of bitterness and sweetness.

Pours brown with minimal head. Well carbonated though in the mouth feels like a soda. Slight aroma of roasted malts but not much. Medium to light in body. Overall not much going on. Drinkable but not much more.

12 oz. bottle shared by DrSilverworm. Pours brown with reddish highlights and a small beige head. The aroma is, well, pretty much not there. Perhaps some very light toasted malts and some herbal notes. The flavor is pretty basic brown ale stuff; dry, light roast, a hint of chocolate and some earthy notes. Nothing bad, just not much to it at all.

Sample from a 12oz bottle. Brown but clear color. Little light brown head, few dots of lace. Good light smooth carbonation, dry texture, medium body. Nice light chocolate toasty malt aroma. Mostly bitter taste, little bittersweetness. Good earthy hops. This is a nice brown ale. I havenít been too impressed with the few Iíve had from this brewery, but I do like this.

Sample at Ale Wine & Spirits in Powell on 07/20/2012. Brown pour with medium foamy beige head that recedes quickly to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of toasted malt and fruit. Light-bodied with flavors of chocolate malt, fruit and slight hops. The finish is sweet with a short malt aftertaste. Fairly average overall.

Bottle. Aroma has notes of toasted caramel and chocolate malted barley, coffee and bittering hops. Very dark brown that sits nearly black in the glass. Average light tan head that mostly diminished and left little lace. Flavor is medium to heavy sweet and medium bitterness. Palate is medium bodied and oily soft. Overall a decent brew that smells better than it tastes. Ok though.

12 oz. bottle poured into a shaker- well, after my turd filled day, itís time to chill and figure out what to do next... poured a very heavily darkened brown with shades of black and maroon when held to a light source, 4mm dark tan head quickly became sploches upon the liquid surface, and did lace. Aroma of molasses, a roasted malt, and some notes of candi sugar. Hits the mouth with a high medium body, malt does have plenty of roast to it along with some molasses, middle becomes sweet, finish is a bit sticky and acidic. Not to style, but it works for me!
