COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Fortunato is a Belgian-style Trappist Ale brewed in the tradition of the Trappist monastery/breweries in Belgian. Fortunato is what we call a "living beer". By that we mean the yeast has not been removed from the beer. The consequences of keeping the yeast in the beer is that Fortunato will continue to age and become more complex as time goes by. This wonderful complexity produces a very wine-like profile so common with the Trappist style of beers.

The Fortunato pours a reddish plumb with a small beige head that does not last long and leaves little lacing. The aroma is dark fruit, raisin and caramel. The flavor is a little light, but dark fruit, raisin and caramel are the main players. Overall this is an average peer. Nothing really stands out about this.

I want to like this beer but something feels off. There was a sourness to it that I did not enjoy. It lingered after I drank it. I am going to try a bottle sometime - as I just had it in the flight. Review will be updated, as currently only that sourness is leaving an impression.

Bottle. Deep caramel color with a thin tan head that dissipates immediately. Smells like banana and circus peanuts. Mild yeasty, banana and malt taste with a grainy finish. Something's missing.

This was received in a recent trade box from my great trading partner, Styrkzone. This poured brown with a medium sized brown head and medium lacing. Nose is ripe fruit and sweet malts; Medium in body with a nice creamy mouthfeel. Flavor is not really up to Trappist standards, but comes close. This is malt forward and the ripe dark fruit shows up nicely. This is a nice drinkable beer. I liked it.

Bubbly gum and yeast aroma. Only a sipper. Fruity and Orange taste. Middle mouthfeel. Somewhat too sweet.Missed Michigan so thanks for sharing Josh.

A bit off target. Some sourness in taste. Smell has some florals. Pours cloudy dark orange. No head, no lacing. Uneven taste that shows off too much booze.

Bottle. Poured clear brown color with an average frothy white head that mostly diminished with fair lacing. Moderate yeast, malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and lively carbonation. Medium fruity malt sweet flavor with a moderate sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met.

Deep dark brown and amber body with a very thin, oily head, just a tip. Aroma of roasted malt and pit fruits, some light apples and pears and a good strong yeastiness. Medium-bodied; Strong sour note at first of cherries with a good malt flavour, some lighter fruit sweetness and a hint of yeast and prunes in the finish - a touch of earth as well. Aftertaste is nice and robust with a bit more malt and pit fruits than I’d expect, but not a bad beer at all. Overall, an interesting take on a belgie - more of a dubbel to me of course, but showing some good deep flavours coupled with a nice sweetness. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on 30-July-2010 for US$1.99 sampled at home in Upstate New York on 08-December-2012.
