3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle- Pours a slightly translucent coffee color. Typical chocolate aroma with a faint hop ending. Watery toffee/ mocha flaver without the sweetness and with a little hops to finish. I suppose that is what they mean by balanced, but overall it did not impress.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Split wig a friend. Nose is intense roast figs, plums, raisins, and chocolate. Taste is Intensely roasted and burnt with notes of caramel and breads. Full body and creamy. Flavor is far less favorable than the aroma. Taste is just roasty and one dimensional and somewhat dry.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Rich, dense dark brown coloured body with a very thick rich brown head with 90% opacity for the body. Aroma of smoked peat, pit fruits, roasted malt, meat and mushrooms, oak and a touch of cherries and milk. Full-bodied; Rich, luscious malty body with a good set of caramel, milk, toffee and nuts - followed by a lot of roasted malt, some smoky notes and a lot of alcohol. Aftertaste shows some good complexity with the malt hitting hard at first then some good sweetness, then followed off by a lactic flavour. Overall, a nice imperial stout - from the ratings, I was getting worried ,but it looks like they changed the recipe or something - my bottle was nice and showed a lot of complexity and nice flavours throughout. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Siciliano’s in Grand Rapids, Michigan on 06-November-2010 for US$1.99 sampled at home in Washington on 11-June-2011.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz bottle. Poured nearly inky black, but flaccid, with only a ring of dark tan head sticking around (a subsequent pour actually yielded a very respectable 1.5 finger head, and I bumped it up 0.1 for that). The aroma picked up sticky, moderately-roasted coffee and rolled oats with buttery vanilla around.. there was some nice character around, but it just smelled too sweet. The flavor kept the sweetness going, with black patent and coffee leading (low-moderate roast).. sweeter chocolates and vanilla again on the edges, and it was still a little buttery.. roasty bitterness almost cut through, but was held back by a wall of residual sugars.. this was actually tasty, but it wasn’t all that well crafted. Medium-bodied and grainy on the palate.. the right amount of carbonation kept it moving well through the palate.. moderate bitterness.. this grew on me, but it was far from great.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
12oz bottle from a trade on BA - thanks! Have to agree that this is a pretty underwhelming pour. Very crisp and lively but the body is gone almost instantly. Prickly mouthfeel but a lack of substance and texture to the body. Nose is sharp molasses and a hint of fruits. Some modest dark chocolate complements the fruits in the flavor, and somewhere in the background there are some roasted malts and that molasses again, and a wee dose of hops. But this is a pretty underwhelming stout overall.

1.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20
12oz bottle poured into my De Struise glass.... Terrible pour for a stout, only about half a finger of light tan head that is gone immediately to only a ring, light lacing. The body is dark brown, not much to see here... The aroma is tons of light bitter cocoa and chocolate, sweet but not half bad. A hint of roast... The taste is borderline terrible. The front for a millisecond is fine as there is some chocolate, but then you all there is terrible ash, charred coffee, bitter wood, and alcohol. Just horrendous, not one good thing about this...The feel is warm, ok carbonation.... This is not drinkable.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle: A somewhat fruity hop aroma intermingled with the roasted chocolate malt characteristic, caramel, raisin. Appearance is a black pour with a full tan head that lingers. Taste is smoky, roast, chocolate, burnt, malt characteristic. The hops subside after sitting for a while and are really pushed to the back in the taste. Palate is full mouthfeel, lightly sticky in the mouth, medium to low carbonation, and an aftertaste of ligering malt goodness. Overall, Decent Imperial Stout nothing to write home about. Cheers!

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours dark, black, opaque. Head is moderate but very deep, almost the color of charred oak barrels. Lacing is very thick. Nose is chocolate, coffee, roast, earthy hops, and a hint of vanilla. On the palate, the flavors are dominated by roast, coffee, and bitter hops. Mild sweetness with lots of bittering on the finish. Carbonation seems to vanish rather quickly and is seems undercarbonated after only 10 minutes in the glass. Overall not bad, if you’re in the mood for a hoppier Imperial stout, but the palate and taste aren’t as promising as the aroma and appearance would suggest. Good but not great.
