2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Pours a nice dark color with a tan foamy head that leaves minimal lacing. Aroma is almost fizzy with some coffee and roasted notes. Flavor is average with some roasted malt, coffee, chocolate notes and finishes with a smooth bitterness. Mouthfeel is light carbonation is average. Overall a decent beer which I probably would not buy again.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
A surprisingly cheap $2 single. Poured it into a shaker pint. Had their Giant Vanilla Slayer at last yearís World Expo of Beer in Frankenmuth and thought it was a fantastic beer. Howís this one?
Appearance: A half-aggressive pour had to be stopped after three ounces due to an insane amount of foaming. What? I havenít seen that for an Imperial Stout in my LIFE. Huge cinnamon colored head that eventually went down to about half a finger and stayed. A lot of lacing. Pitch black hued brew.
Smell: B-L-A-H. Worst Imperial Stout Iíve whiffed, that I can remember. Iíve never smelled one quite so bland. Mild roast, but I actually get a lot of hop character in there. So much so that it almost smells like a black IPA, but not quite. Well, I donít think itís so much that the hops are potent as the other characteristics are just subdued. A shame.
Taste/feel: A medium sort of feel with a moderate carbonation. Not quite what Iíd expect for the style, but not bad. That hop character comes through on the start with a weird, surprising wave of... saltiness? This is an incredibly salty tasting beer. On the back thereís a very pleasant roasty character with some chocolate and alcohol warmth, but itís not there enough through the sip, or even on the finish.
A decent beer. Considering a single bottle was $2, this is about what I expected. The biggest drawback for this beer, aside from the fact that it doesnít have a huge roasty boldness I affiliate with an Imperial Stout, and the feel is a bit off, is definitely that unusual amount of, for the lack of a better description, SALTINESS that I get on this one. Not a soy sauce sort of flavor or anything, just... salt. So much in fact that for a moment after each sip I take, I swear I feel a slight bit of acid reflux -- and I very, very rarely get acid reflux. In case youíre wondering, no, I didnít eat anything recently thatíd cause it.
Itís a fair value for $2 for the ABV alone... and hey, it tastes alright as well. just donít drink too much of this, because you may end up dehydrated. Not from the alcohol, but from the salt.
(I swear to God, there must be a tablespoon per bottle. Why doesnít it ruin the beer for me?)
Give Giant Salter -- I mean Slayer -- a run for yourself.

Black pour with a HUGE head. A little over carbonated. Smells of chocolate and coffee. Tastes of dark fruits, chocolate, coffee and tobacco roll over the tongue. Chalky mouthfeel. Glad I tried this one, not the worst not the best. Good effort.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tap: deep body, basically completely black with a thin layer of khaki foam that resides on top. Aroma contains roasted malt, cocoa dust, faint oily coffee beans, a mild back-end anise, & a decent amount of char from front to back... Certainly smells like a roasty imperial stout. Taste is bitter, bitter, bitter! Lots of bittering hops up front; leafy, sharp & working with the intense roast to make things even more bitter. Cocoa & coffee beans, unsweet with oil, light anise, & another dusting of bitter roast in the finish. Aftertaste contains some astringency, expected at this point. A little time opens up some dark fruits in the aftertaste, adding some much needed balance. Good stout, but would be tough to drink in quantity.

Sample at Suds on the Shore festival. Dark pour with lots of roasted coffee and chocolate in the aroma and taste. Enough hops to make it interesting.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
7/3/13. 12oz bottle thanks to breau. Black pour with a huge tan head that fizzes away fast. Some dark fruits, coffee, and chocolate in the aroma. Surprisingly light flavor with some coffee, chocolate, and dark fruits. Thin body and SUPER overcarbonated. Iím not sure if just overcarbed or a little infected. Not great either way.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Dark beer with only the barest of a slick of brown bubbles for a head. Nose of molasses and chocolate. This has the oily mouthfeel that a good Impy stout should have, if not the thick body. Molasses sweetness with toffee, chocolate, ripe pit fruit, toasted grains and a very present grass hop tone. This is a solid stout.

1.2 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 3/20
Bottle. Pours pitch black with a medium sized fizzy head that quickly fades. Aroma is sour fruit and black licorice. Taste is the same. Very sweet at first and then incredibly sour in the finish. Either this is an infection or a really poorly brewed beer. Iíll buy another one in a few months that hopefully will taste different.
