COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Russian Imperial stout is just bursting with an abundance of character! Our biggest beer, coming in at 8.5% abv, is sure to be the new favorite of stout fans. Giant Slayer is an intense stout that presents itself with huge roasted, chocolate, and coffee malt flavors. Although well hopped, this beer is still very balanced. Giant Slayer provides a rich, full bodied drinking experience with dark hints of old world style.

Tap sample at MBGSF 2011. Poured a black color with an average frothy brown head that lasted with good lacing. Moderate roasted chocolate malt aroma. Medium sweet roasted malt flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Good drinkable beer.

Great head, thick and very bubbly. Black body. Aroma is chocolate and roasty. Taste is coffee and sweet. Rather sweet for a RIS. Rather fair for a RIS, but quaff able. Thanks Josh for sharing.

12oz bottle. Poured nearly inky black, but flaccid, with only a ring of dark tan head sticking around (a subsequent pour actually yielded a very respectable 1.5 finger head, and I bumped it up 0.1 for that). The aroma picked up sticky, moderately-roasted coffee and rolled oats with buttery vanilla around.. there was some nice character around, but it just smelled too sweet. The flavor kept the sweetness going, with black patent and coffee leading (low-moderate roast).. sweeter chocolates and vanilla again on the edges, and it was still a little buttery.. roasty bitterness almost cut through, but was held back by a wall of residual sugars.. this was actually tasty, but it wasn’t all that well crafted. Medium-bodied and grainy on the palate.. the right amount of carbonation kept it moving well through the palate.. moderate bitterness.. this grew on me, but it was far from great.

12 oz bottle. It pours pretty much the qiuntessinial way for a RIs Thick, inky black body with a huge fomay tan head that sticks forever before receding to some nice thick-walled style lacing. The smell is pretty good. It is roasty, it reminds me of a baltic porter in a way, or rather an imperial baltic porter. Not in the yeast but in the overall cocoa, raoastinees, and caramel levels. The flavor is pretty good. Just what I am looking for in a RIS, not too much cloying sweetness, waves of roasted malt flavors. Think abyss without all the additives.

Bottle. Pours black with a brown head that dissipated slowly to the edges. Aroma is full of roasted malts with an underlying coffee note and on odd earthy note as well. Flavor is similar with lots of roasted malts, an odd sweet earthy note and some backing coffee

Sample from a 12oz bottle. Super-dark brown but still clear color. Minimal light brown head, good lace. Dark fruit, molasses, little roasty malts. Bittersweet taste. Bigger body, good chewy texture, lighter carbonation. Not my favorite RIS, but still OK

7/3/13. 12oz bottle thanks to breau. Black pour with a huge tan head that fizzes away fast. Some dark fruits, coffee, and chocolate in the aroma. Surprisingly light flavor with some coffee, chocolate, and dark fruits. Thin body and SUPER overcarbonated. I’m not sure if just overcarbed or a little infected. Not great either way.

Backlogged rating: Tap, Pours a very deep brown with a oily appearance but not much head. The aroma is nice with chocolate, toffee, coffee, char, leather and some dark fruits. A touch of grassy hops as well. The taste does not match up to the nose, weak sweet malts with some fig and prunes. Very light hop profile and a bit of freezed dried coffee. The mouth feel is smooth but under carbonated. Meh, drinkable but more like a sweet stout than an Imperial.

Bottle. Pours dark brown to black with a few random bubbles for a head. The aroma had roasted malts, chocolate, light black coffee notes, a mild dark fruitiness and some alcohol. The flavor has roasted malts, dark fruits, chocolate with some earthy bitterness. Very thin for the style.
