4.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 crossovert (4563) - Wisconsin, USA - JAN 4, 2012
12 oz bottle.
It pours pretty much the qiuntessinial way for a RIs Thick, inky black body with a huge fomay tan head that sticks forever before receding to some nice thick-walled style lacing.
The smell is pretty good. It is roasty, it reminds me of a baltic porter in a way, or rather an imperial baltic porter. Not in the yeast but in the overall cocoa, raoastinees, and caramel levels.
The flavor is pretty good. Just what I am looking for in a RIS, not too much cloying sweetness, waves of roasted malt flavors. Think abyss without all the additives.

Solid Russian Imperial Stout. Dark, smooth, with hints of chocolate, roast, coffee and some burnt toast. A real winner.

Rich, dense dark brown coloured body with a very thick rich brown head with 90% opacity for the body. Aroma of smoked peat, pit fruits, roasted malt, meat and mushrooms, oak and a touch of cherries and milk. Full-bodied; Rich, luscious malty body with a good set of caramel, milk, toffee and nuts - followed by a lot of roasted malt, some smoky notes and a lot of alcohol. Aftertaste shows some good complexity with the malt hitting hard at first then some good sweetness, then followed off by a lactic flavour. Overall, a nice imperial stout - from the ratings, I was getting worried ,but it looks like they changed the recipe or something - my bottle was nice and showed a lot of complexity and nice flavours throughout. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Siciliano’s in Grand Rapids, Michigan on 06-November-2010 for US$1.99 sampled at home in Washington on 11-June-2011.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 polomagnifico (1105) - Saginaw, Michigan, USA - JAN 19, 2010
UPDATED: MAY 29, 2011 2nd Rating - Same as last but with more piney hops and a little smoke. Much better than before.
Bottle. Aroma has notes of sweet chocolate, black coffee, and dark roast malts. Very dark brown hue that sits black in the glass below a nice creamy brown head that diminished and left some lace. Taste is really sweet with a bitter coffee finish. Palate is full bodied with quite a bit of carbonation. Overall the best beer I’ve had from Tri-City. A sweet stout that has plenty of coffee and sweet chocolate. I think if they tried more of an espresso and twice the hops they could have a decent brew. Room for improvement but at least it wasn’t infected.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Pailhead (3859) - Plymouth, Michigan, USA - FEB 13, 2010
Bottle: The aroma consists of chocolate, roasted malt, faint fruit, and a hint of coffee. It pours a dark brown with some red highlights along the edges of the glass. It has a small khaki head that lasts a minute or so before it fades to a thin film. The flavor starts with moderate dark chocolate. There is a faint fruitiness that starts in the middle and builds into the finish along with some roasted coffee, a hint of vanilla, and a touch of burnt notes. Medium-full bodied with soft carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel.

12 oz.... Really good...a Starbucks Red Eye with a double shot of espresso is the flavor. Black, oily, roasty goodness. Another reason to love Michigan in January.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 gorditoabd (557) - San Diego, California, USA - AUG 19, 2012
Bottle at my dad’s house in Whitehall, Mi. Pours a dark creamy color, with just the faintest hint of brown sugar colored foam. Aromas are of leather, anise, earth, coffee, and chocolate. Taste is a very nice match to the nose, with a oily-creamy mouthfeel and middling thickness. Only complaint about this brew is that it gets a little muddled at the finish, but overall is a very solid offering. Also, it is not the most "Russian" of RISs I’ve ever had. All told, though, a really nice brew.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 flatmatt (869) - Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - NOV 3, 2010
12 oz bottle. Pours black with a light brown head. Chocolate and coffee aroma with a bit of cream. Flavor is roasted coffee with chocolate and a high roasty bitterness with a bit of hops and dark fruit. A good imperial stout, if nothing too special.
