Hell’s Half Mile is a German style Helles Lager that is pale gold with a creamy white head. Helles is German for bright. Hell’s Half Mile has an appealing grainy aroma with a slightly sweet malty flavor yet perfectly balanced with traditional noble hop characteristics. Don’t let the light color fool you! This full bodied beer is complex and refreshing!

12oz bottle. Mildly hazy golden color. Thin slightly off-white head. Loose splotches and ropes of lace. Medium body. Crisp, lighter carbonation. Lightly sticky texture. Some grainy, bready malt flavors. Hint of pepper. Light bit of citrus. Moderate sweet taste, light bitter. Something tastes slightly off, not sure what.. But besides that, a pretty solid, easy drinking helles

On tap at the Mackinac Island Draught House. Pours a clear gold with a near white head that dissipates to the edges and laces slightly. Aroma is mild with notes of hay, bread and a bit of biscuit. Flavor is mild with hay and grain and a bit of grass in the finish.

Bottle: The aroma consists of yeast, vegetables, apple, and light sour citrusy/lemony solvent notes...certainly not what a Helles should smell like. It pours a hazy orangish-yellow with a small head that quickly fades to a thin film outlined by a thicker ring around the edges of the glass. The flavor starts with a light sweet cereal and grain. The finish has some lightly sour and citrus flavors. Light bodied with lively fizzy carbonation. Tri-City needs to figure out their bottling issues. This is clearly showing signs of infection and it’s not the first beer I’ve had from them that’s been infected. This would get killed if I rated it to style. On the hedonistic scale, the sour notes aren’t as horribly off putting as they are just simply out of place.

Hazy golden honey coloured body with a pungent glow and a very nice frothy off-white head with larger bubbles - great looking, for sure. Aroma of fresh pale malt, lemons, coriander seed and a bunch of cardboard - not much else. Light-bodied; Sharp lemon and acidic flavour up front with a mild sweetness, a ton of sour lemon juice taste and some very mild tastes. Aftertaste shows the odd combination of lemons and light malt with very little else. Overall, an interesting beer - not horrible, but not showing the best characteristics of the style - light and citrusey for sure. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on 30-July-2010 sampled at home in Washington on 14-April-2011.

Hazy gold with a short, off-white head. Light fruit, sour grain malt aroma. Taste is rather tart fruit, apple, slightly acidic. Very crisp and carbonated, increasing tart/sour. Not bad.

Golden yellow with a poor excuse for a head – fading and gone. Aroma is sweet and grassy along with cereal grains and noble hops. Taste is of grains, lemon, mild noble hops and semi-sweet pale malt. Body is sudsy and oily with a peppery finish.

Aroma is strong with plenty of fruity tones and an undertone of yeast, slightly sweet. It pours a clear yellowish amber with a thick, if not persistent, cream-white head. Flavor is malty, yeasty and fruity with a touch of sweetness and a hint of hops. Texture is very smooth yet quite fizzy, leaving behind a nice tingle.

12 oz. bottle from my Secret Santa, umich03jm. Thanks man! Pours a hazed golden with a thick, rocky white head. Aroma of mild citrus, grain, fresh bread. Flavor is crisp, mild citrus and grain notes. Lively carbonation, light bodied. Finish is fairly abrupt. It’s fine. Nothing particularly special.
